This picture isn't mine, but what is this circled part of the fuel sending unit. It has come off on my unit. Can this piece be replaced?

It's a thermistor. Pretty sure it's part of the low fuel light. If the wire breaks off on top, you can resolder it back on

I'm not very familiar with the FD fuel level sending setup and I am having difficulty imagining what purpose a thermistor would serve, fuel overheat of some sort? It sits right under the fuel return so maybe?

Nope, that's the sensor for the low fuel level light. I THINK you can still get the whole sender assembly new from Mazda, or try and fix it or buy a used one.

BTW, it's worth having that light. I had an FC that had a light that only came on when you were on FUMES - I think I ran out of gas once or twice on that car.

Thanks for the help. I am having trouble finding a replacement unit in stock new or used. Would a right hand drive car have the same unit? I think I've seen one of those. Otherwise I will see if it is repairable.

As far as I know the RHD cars are identical as far as that assembly is concerned.

May want to hit up Ray Crowe if you are looking for new, if it's available he can give you a solid answer.
