Hey, I was wondering what are some good sites to find an rx7 fd. I found auto trader and it was saying 50k+ which I think is outrageous for a car that had 104k miles. My price range rn is 20-25k ish. I also checked out some Japanese importing sites but they also said 40k ish, I checked offer up and found some for 20k but they was posted a couple months ago ( not available any more). Most people I talk to say it is very much possible to find a fd for 25k, but it seems hard for me to find one available in that price range.

The problem is that you're looking to buy an FD in 2021, not in 2015. You'll have to either find a way to increase your budget or look into 2nd Gen 1986-1991 FC3s 7s.

The car market had changed dramatically in the last 12 months, with 30-50%+ price increases for interesting older cars.

Today you might find an FD for $25k but it will not be pretty (or will be an automatic). $35-$40k is currently typical for clean FDs, and over $50k for very low mile examples.

Yep. Buy a cheap beat up one and spend that money all over again trying to make it nice.

RX-8 is a good option if you want something to start having fun with. You can get RX-8's for a LOT less, like $5k for a decent running car.

As far as where to look, the classifieds here, Craigslist/FB Marketplace, Ebay, you name it. The deals will be on small sites like CL or FB, you also have to be willing to pick up and drive to get it, you may not find one in your home town. These cars are rare, Mazda only sold 13,500 in the US and a lot of those are gone now, some estimates are about 5000 still around that aren't crushed and gone.

Like the Gentleman have said the markets swung big for FD’s. I agree with Dale on this one, and owning both and FD and RX8. I love the FD but honestly I have more fun sometimes just driving my RX8 and then you factor in the costs. When I drive the RX8 I have a piece of mind that the car isn’t 50k, and they really can be purchased for a few grand. After purchasing one I recommend getting a good shell with a drivetrain at or around 60-80k and drop a new engine in it. Spend some money on upgrades for longevity and you will love the car, Sohn adapter, D585 coils and a few others DONE! You could possibly have a brand new car for 12-15k

Who are these people & do they even own FD's? Like others have said, you are gonna have to raise your price a bit. The sorta good news is that you can still find FD's in the high 30's low 40's price range

Get one soon, they will only go up. Considered one of the best Japanese designs, one of the only pure sports cars of the period, a unique engine, and the performance to back it up. Get one now before they go the way of GTRs and 2000GTs

This, sadly. Maybe so, a better chance in your price range scoring something about 2 years ago. Not the case these days especially with the 90's JDM icons. Even if you did find something close to pricing, chances are it would likely be one that was probably molested to some degree requiring some coin to get it right before even modding it. RHD pricing are up as well. Good luck though

I think you should know that:

There's a 46k mile auto FD​ on bat that is currently at $21k with one day to go. It's a nice car but since it's auto and thanksgiving it's not generating much interest. You should check it out, you might get lucky.

P.S. know that the automatic transmission can be swapped for a manual so that should not be a deterrent. Note that if the swap is an issue for you due to the labor involved, don't get an FD. Trust me on that.

Your only shot of getting a manual in decent shape with reasonable miles at that price point is Japanese auction block and go through an exporter. Even then you're gonna have to bump yourself to 30k after import costs and whatnot realistically

Maybe study their site for a while to get acclimatized to the JDM import world.
