What is the best SMIC (stock airbox+battery) out there?
The question is easy, yet so complicated. What is the best SMIC that i can get, that will still allow the stock air intake (or AutoExe) and the stock battery placement? Will be used with a BNR Stage 3 setupo, aiming for close to 400RWHP (wishfull thinking?)
There are two types from what i have found:
Single core: One thic core, where the air flows in at the bottom, then up through the core and out in to the intake.
Dual core: The air flow down through the inside core, then up though the outside /front core, then to the engine. The inside core will see slightly hotter temps since the cooling air goes thorugh the outside core first, but since this is the first core the intake air sees, the difference should be marginal. The last core the intake air sees also see the coldest cooling air, straight from the ducting, and thus in theory temps should be the same.
Also both types will have a 180 degree turn on the airflow, for singe core this is when the air flow down to the bottom then turns to go straight up through the IC.
For the dual core this is when the air has flowed down through the first core, then turns to go up the second core. Again i am not sure how much this will affect the net flow, except the air speed is slower on the 180 degree turn on dual cores, since it has bigger crossection than the pipes have.
I have looked at those and the primary downside for my part is that they dont fit well with stock or AutoExe intakes. The FD is super rare in norway and i want to keep mine stock ish with not many obvious mods, so i would prefer to retain the engine bay looking like stock If that was not an issue for me i would go V-mount instead

They don't make anything I know if that will retain stock look and support 400hp. The alternative is if you run 50/50 water meth aux injection because the intercooler doesn't matter. Many racers run without an intercooler with methanol injection because it cools the intake charge by itself. Leaving your stock intercooler would retain the stock looks and the methanol will provide the intake charge cooling.
The original PFS SMIC setup had a stock-ish looking airbox as part of the kit, the one pictured below has been modified to draw air from the bottom. Water/meth is going to be required to hit 400hp regardless of IC.

No complaints about the Blitz SMIC I've had for years. Fits with bothbattery and airbox, retains the stock ducting, etc.
My car doesn't put down 400+ hp, but it does see some high temps/abuse. I use it mainly for trackdays and playing around in the mountains around my house.
Dual stock oil coolers, a good SMIC with proper ducting for both, a downpipe, a Koyo triple pass and some water wetter. I'm nice and safe, even at Buttonwillow in the summer.
Does anyone have any experience with the newer CX Racing SMIC that comes with a duct? it seems like a decent deal for about $450 shipped. The only drawback I see for it(Which is not much of one) is that you're required to use their intake or one that's narrower than stock.
The CX Racing SMIC you linked above looks very good value for money but it's a shame that it won't work with the stock air box and air guide as I wouldn't want to run a hot air intake (plus I like the OEM look).
The Knight Sports kit below has to be the best SMIC available that retains the stock airbox, battery, etc. but it costs like $1,300 from Japan before shipping and import taxes!
At the moment, I am running the twins at 12-12.5 psi on the stock airbox and intercooler with an AEM water injection kit to ensure temps stay nice and cool in case the stock intercooler is overwhelmed. Having said that, on my 1999 the opening to the intercooler duct is larger due to the 99 spec front bumper and it is completely sealed off from the intake air guide so it's much more efficient than it was on earlier cars. The highest temps I ever saw before adding my water injection kit after a few WOT pulls in a row is mid 50° C, albeit on a relatively cool day of about 8-10° C. So, the stock intercooler seems to be just about up to the job at 12-12.5 psi on the street but I wouldn't trust it for a 15-20 minute track session on a relatively warm day, hence the water injection.
And to be honest, with water injection I question whether I need to upgrade the intercooler at all now.

I used some aluminum tape around the duck and intercooler and seems to work good on my blitz
