Vacuum hose found not attached

Hey guys, on my 1996 FD3S, I found this vacuum hose not attached to anything. I started the car and noticed a suction from the hose. The hose has an orange marking on it (see below) and looks like it comes from the intake area just aft of the alternator. See some pictures below. I am not sure where it attaches to even after reviewing the vacuum diagrams for the car.

Be very careful in that area. The wire that connects to the alternator is always hot, even when the key is off. It has a direct connection to the battery, that's why the original harness had a rubber cover. The cover on your car is worn, but it shouldn't be too difficult to replace.

This aftermarket cover should fit:

Looks like a nipple has broken off inside the hose, which might be a quick and dirty way to locate it, if everything's still there. I can't see a purge anywhere there, has an emissions delete occurred at some stage....maybe by 96 it had relocated to the UIM though?

You’ve got a limited area to search. Shouldn’t be too big of a deal.

Disconnect the battery. —-> https://www.sakebombgarage.com/jdm-r...plug-cap-fd3s/

As stated, get a rubber boot for the alternator. JP3 makes a great, OEM-looking one -

That said you are gonna need to get the vacuum hose diagram and figure out what that hose goes to. Also you are probably going to need some new vacuum hose, boost controller.com has great quality hose, 3.5mm is the size you need for the standard vacuum line. I can see the one that is detached is already cracking.

As stated it does look like a nipple is broken off inside that hose so whatever that goes to will have to be replaced. It COULD be the vacuum canister which kind of sucks to get to, that hose and where it is make me think it's that canister. If so they are a dime a dozen used in good shape, don't try and fix it or hack it, get a good used one, swap it out, new silicone vacuum hose, you will never have to deal with it again.

Also you don't need to feel like you have to do a full hose job or anything. If you see a bad or loose hose, replace it. Hoses that are baked on and in good shape, just leave them alone.
