Stock Head Units Available for '94 FD

Hi, I'm curious about what head unit options I would have had if I purchase my 1994 R2 new instead of 25 years later.

At some point, I'm interested in (hopefully) getting stock head units to at least keep with the car if not actually install (since I kind of like the USB port and the hands-free bluetooth of the Kenwood that came with the purchase.

Thanks in advance!

Single din non-BOSE Clarion w/o the disc player in the second din. You got a storage pocket with door in that.

see my thread in the audio section:

https://www.rx7club.com/interior-ext...-bose-1112087/

basically you need to get a used one and then overhaul it if you want it to work right.

correct, the CD player, was offered as an accessory

FD01-66-9C0B is the AM/FM/Tape for the non-Bose cars.
FD04-66-9C0B is the AM/FM/Tape for the Bose

FD04-66-9G0B is the CD player, the Bose cars came with it, everything else was an option/added later

See if you can score a Nakamichi CD400 headunit ...

If you want to update the OEM radio, there are companies out there that will retrofit them with bluetooth capabilities.

Forty Ounce is right. If you can find either a Nakamichi CD400 or CD500, they match everything and are maybe the best sounding head units ever made. eBay them.

I had the NAK CD400 for several years. It was a simple straightforward design, back-lighting matched and sounded fine. But the stiff suspension played havoc with the CD player. I'm not an audiophile, long term is to have my OEM headunit re-worked (some illumination isn't working) and then I think a Bluetooth can be added. Done.

the FD was two single DIN's, and had the same plugs as every other Mazda from 89-2003 (give or take), i think i put a 626/miata single din am/fm/cd player in mine at some point.

point being, there are other factory options that are plug and play

I do have a newer Miata radio I never installed that matches well, problem is it doesn’t have Bluetooth etc.
I’m also looking for a single din so I can use the R1 din pocket.

I run a Miata radio with the Aux-In mod (it's plug and play from Sylfex Auxmod). Run a Bluetooth Receiver to the Aux-In and there you go...Miata Radio that looks like a Spirit R with Bluetooth...
