Rx7 Fd frame strength

Hey, i recently bought a fd shell. One previous owner have removed the frame parts for the chairs, do anyone know if they are necessary or can stay removed? And use universal Seat brackets instead.

The «T» frame parts is removed, i think to replace the floor, but wondering if i need more strength. There is fitted a rollcage too.

Im thinking it was there for a reason. They rarely do things that cost money without a reason to.
Its impossible to determine how much it affects it without looking at the design documentation or making a 3d model and simulate.

I would have just welded inn the upper half if a sqare tube or something similar. The cage might make up for it, but then again can it ever be stiff enough? (sa brura)
The EPC have some pics of the floor at least: Mazda RX-7 FD 1993-08 Mazda Floor Panels

From right to left or front to rear? Yeah good point, stiffer is better. 😂

Lots of cars have that, parts of the tunnel and even the floor cut out and lowered to accommodate race seats and for your helmeted head to clear the overhead tube work. If the workmanship is good, I wouldn't worry, all that work in the door will more than compensate. Has that car been a cut and shut or is that just the previous owner's attempt at seam welding.....probably someone who shouldn't be trusted with a mig going by the looks of those welds under the leg area,

Hope you're not the typical Scandanavian height wise either, the crossed tubes are bad enough that additional Sainz bar will need the dexterity of a contortionist.....we have a 7 second rule over here for egress, although rarely checked except for fat bastards.

Im not sure what They planer to do, but they have just drilled the spot welds, i plan to change the floor plates with new fresh steel. The tubing and welding on the rollcage is proffesional welded by a company. I'm a little tall so I probably need the height, wasnt thinking about it when i bought the car. There is much horrible work, i have much work to do.

Looks like there was possibly a rust patch repair next door, maybe there was something similar happening under the rib too - or maybe in prep for a floor mount pedal box - just seems a touch(!) rough and weird the way they've done the job. The front leg being up tight to the pillar is nice, often see the usual gusset, tagging the cage several cm away, it might look racey and make windscreen replacement easier, but you need all the space you can find in these, at least IMO.

I think it was removed to get the seat lower and maybe an pedal box. The seller talked about it but he havent worked on the car. He had owned the car for about a year when i bought it. Without working on it. Yeah, i think there is potential in this car, but ad you see on the pictures. There is alot of work needed. But do you think i can just mount the seats to de floor?

Depends entirely on your torso length I find. Assuming the cage is FIA and has an X or V arrangement in the roof bars, I'd get your chosen seat, see if that can fit - which can be a challenge in these, then see if you can clear wearing a helmet.....the usual SFI/FIA padding adds a lot of diameter to the tube too.

Best way to mount a seat is using the roll cage or dedicated crossmembers between the sill and tunnel, typical westerner won't have that option and have to mount direct to the floor with localised reinforcing. The floor here was dropped 50mm from where that lateral rib was removed in your car all the way back and made flat rather than sloping to give sufficient headroom.

I’m 190cm tall so i probably need the height the cage is from «custom cages» with fia. I’m sure i have to mount the seat to te floor. Think it is an x shape.
