I dont think mazdatrix and Racing beat tune cars. I know Rotary power does for sure.

I hear very good things about Nelson @ RRR.

There is also Neptunespeed in OC,
and Lucky 7 in Duarte

both reputable shops with lots of rotary experience. Lucky 7 is my go-to. I hear that neptunespeed tunes very rich, though.

RE: Mazdatrix,

I was there last week to pick up parts, and the owner Dave mentioned that they no longer service cars at all, he's almost retired and just handles parts now. (and racing his turbo rx-8)

Rotary Power USA Gardena, CA - Jeff will be tuning my car on an adaptronic this weekend.

Lucky 7 and RRR to my knowledge both use Nelson. I understand he lives in Texas and comes to California from time to time to tune cars, atleast when I tried to make an appt. with both these shops they quoted me a few weeks out.

Garage life in LA also does tuning but I believe they use Lucky 7's dyno should you be doing a dyno tune.

Neptune speed in HB have heard nothing but good things (I ended up not using them because they don't work with adaptronics)

Depending on where you are in LA, you might look into Tri point engineering in Canoga Park. I heard they're coming back into business (not sure if they do tuning or not)

How much is he charging for tuning, if I may ask? You can pm me if you don't feel comfortable posting it on the thread.

Thanks

Nelson tuned my car several years ago after rebuild at RRR. Did a really poor job. Ran like ****. Had to take it back (240 miles one way). Re-tune ran better, but engine almost blew due to detonation. Took it elsewhere for proper tune. Maybe Nelson is better now, but he really messed up on my car.

well thats good to know, where did you go for the proper tune?
and how long ago was this?

Nelson@RRR quoted me $595 for a PFC tune, or $1800 for a brand new PFC installed and tuned

Jeff@Rotarypowerusa: "The apexi is $1200 + $700 Installation & tuning"

after going back at some of the threads on Nelson at RRR, there are some unsatisfied peeps (incl. adam)

Well I just dropped off my car this morning at Rotary Power USA, for a tune on my fd w/ adaptronic.

This is my first time having a tune but I will post my personal thoughts/results when I pick it up.

Just spoke with Jeff at Rotary Power on Saturday at a local meet and discussed tuning with him. He really seems to know his stuff. He seems on the conservative side. I think you should be happy.

People seem to either love or hate Nelson. I personally don't want to take a chance to see which Nelson i'm going to get, lol. One thing I have realized is that when the people disllike Neslon, they all say he blamed them i.e., their setup, not having a Haltech, or feel like he insulted their intelligence. No thanks.

What's wrong using the lucky7 dyno? Garagelife have done the tune on mine just recently, I haven't put many miles on the car but can't complain so far.

I didn't mean anything was wrong with it, just more as an informative statement that they use the dyno. I have no 1st hand opinion positive or negative w/ Garagelife or their tuning.

As far as my experience w/ Rotary Power USA. I just got the car back this morning. My secondary turbo went out so it was there for a few extra days as we had to do a swap for a replacement set of twins.

My impression, overall on the tune. I am very happy with the results, it pulls well in all gears, starts fine. I'm no expert but just from I can tell it is a little rich (don't know if that is a good or bad thing). Jeff went over what exactly was done with the tune and their mindset behind putting things the way they did. It has a nice Idle at about 1k (I have a mild street port, stock twins, full 3inch exhaust) so im happy. One thing they fixed was when coming off the freeway for example the idle no longer flutters when i come to a stop, it stays stable.

As far as the rest of my experience. Both Jeff and Justin went over the car with me and some points I should probably address. As well as corrected some little things I had pointed out and some others I didn't at no cost. And really felt like they took care of me as a customer.

The Rotary Power team has definitely earned me as a returning customer. I couldn't be happier from their communication, the work and the results.

My mild street ported engine idles nicely at stock settings, around 750 rpm. Yours should idle there too.

+1 for Garage Life. Dan is very passionate and knowledgeable about rotaries.
