Looks identical to the ones my car came with. They look good but I'm going to be swapping back to the 99 spec skirts and an OE rear bumper.

Looking through prior issue of Hyper Rev, the closest match seems to be "Interceptor Sexy Style". I also saw similar side-skirts in random photos, sometimes mixed with other kits' front and rear bumpers. It seems the full "Sexystyle" kit includes over-fenders on the front, that look pretty sharp. The magazines do not seem to mention a specific manufacturer of the kit.

Probably a dumb question but are there any fitment issues/differences in the USDM OE rear bumper vs JDM? I imagine the license plate bracket area will differ but that's about it? Seems like I can get one here (https://www.mazdapartsoutlet.com/oem...ver-fd0150221b) but want to be sure before buying. Can't seem to find a OE bumper anywhere else at the moment. Looked at a few threads on the USDM/JDM general differences but nothing came up on bumpers.

That site says the "Store is temporarily Closed".

Beware of fake parts sites or sites that list all the parts, but rarely have them.

The RHD bumper has a cutout section for the license plate for some reason.

But otherwise, to my knowledge the bumpers should be interchangeable.

Had a very busy December and January isn't looking much better. Had to take her out for a quick spin to knock the dust off since it hadn't been driven for over a month. Hoping to hit up some meets since it's cooler these next couple months and possibly dive into my rats nest.

Unusually mild winter for us. Plants are confused and are still blooming. Rainstorms have washed away the road salt for now. Lots of work done the last few months. Looking forward to some longer cruises. Found the Toyo Tire warehouse tonight at the end of a very long dark road.

Incredible project. Does it cost extra to see the engine bay?

I've been watching this build and I totally didn't realize it was RHD. If I ever build a widebody FD, this would be my top choice kit because I don't think you can get better than the factor body lines and this keeps those

It is fairly easy for a car to pick up an R rating.

A prior accident for instance.

Picking up a car with an "R" is higher risk.

Some cars with an "R" rating might be overly discounted.

You might pic up a deal or a lemon.

Typically the pictograph on the auction summary will show "X"s were some prior damage was detected.

I have found "autocheck.jp" to be a very good source on JDM cars history.

Unfortunately, auction scoring sheets can be faked.

So something like autocheck might reveal the proper auction sheet.

There was a car being sold locally here as a Spirit R but had a different VIN on the firewall than the registration.

We ran both Vin through autocheck.jp and found that the car was indeed a Spirit R.

But it had been auctioned about the same time as a Type RS.

Somehow the Type RS registration was switched to the Spirit R.

We have been importing FD into Canada since 2007. Many came in rated as "R". As long as the car could pass our local inspections (as any car coming into the province would need to) it could be registered.

The "R" rating was irrelevant.

With no decent car meets this week and tired of parts sitting on the bench, I got a wild hair and tackled my rats nest/Fuel system restoration this week. Went very smooth, I have a friend that owns a local shop so I was able to get my injectors cleaned with a 1 day turn around and didn't have to ship them anywhere. Just took her out for the test spin for proper sequential operation and she runs beautifully. Now I have peace of mind knowing my injectors are flowing enough for me to start some mods. I'll updated my project thread and working on a rats nest youtube video as well since most of the ones I found were done differently then I do it.

Great update. If you can preserve the sequential that is the best.

That's the plan with this, keeping it OEM+ and true to its heritage. I even order most of my parts from Japan just because its cheaper at the moment due to the dollar to yen value. Even when these twins die, I'll be going 99spec, BnR or SP Twins to keep the sequential setup. Now the plan is to go Dyno completely stock, then install my Autoexe intake I've had in my closet forever and dyno again, rinse and repeat with the rest of the mods. Hoping to do similar tracking to Banzai's thread tracking each part addition.

After getting my car back to about 98% stock, I have been slipping backwards.

I stopped counting at about 45 "deviations from showroom". Much of the change has been done with Mazda OEM parts from other models, options catalogues and, in period, aftermarket from "mooks".

On recent change, I am pretty happy with, was having the 4.3 "ring and pinion" swapped into my differential. The 4.3 was used in the Spirit R and , maybe, the 280 hp RS.

The pick-up response is notable.

RZs ran those as well. Fifth gear was different in those cars to make up for the shorter final drive. I've thought about finding one of the taller 5th gear trannies so I have even nicer 5th for long trips on the highway with my 4:10s.

I have not seen the Spirit R spec trannies for sale. Maybe people who know, snap any up that become available. But I wonder if Mazda still has the gear itself as an available part. I have several spare transmissions ready for rebuild. There is a guy in Seattle that specializes in rebuilds at a reasonable cost.

Looking at the S8 parts catalogue I do not see a listing for "fifth " gear or Fourth Gear. I see:

Gear, 1sr
Gear, 2nd
Gear, 3rd
Gear, Main Drive
Gear, Overtop

Of these only "Gear, Overtop" list a different PN for "17 Inch wheel" cars.

There are several other transmission internal parts that have a separate PN for "17" Wheel"

My guess is "Gear, Over Top" is our target gear.

PN for the 17" wheel version is:

The stars aligned this weekend and we were able to sneak both cars out of the garage for a new car meet that recently started north of us. I was the only FD, there was one really clean FC and one FB and a crazy TT V8 swapped Miata. 5 skylines but only one GTR. In my area, you regularly see McLarens, Vipers etc, but you rarely see our 90's Japanese cars, Skylines are getting to be more prominent. Also took the 360 camera out to see how night shots are with it. It does "OK" but could be better. When you are near decent lighting it looks great but really struggles in low light situations. I think some of it could be tuned out with some of the manual controls but I haven't gotten very deep into that aspect of it yet.

Could have a lot of fun with one of those cameras!

Magnetic door signs in the "Hi-no-maru" pattern would really make you car stand out even more at meets!
