The FD in Japan came out with different steering wheels over the years.

People either get them from Japan or get ones from the USDM Miata

Just keep in mind that the Miata will need some slight modifications in order to have normal turn signal operation

JDM Mazda RX7
1998-2005 Mazda Miata
1999-2002 Mazda Protege

The Miata and Protege will require some drilling of the hub - but pretty easy stuff with a drill press. You'll also need some wiring to get the cruise control working with the new style controls.

Happy to hear about the protege. They are easy to find at auto wreckers around here. I have a 1993 JDM FD3S I'm surprised it doesn't have it...? No worries about cruise control I don't have it anyways.

I'm not sure of the exact year, but they didn't change the steering wheel until 99 or something.

There are some little things here and there - namely the 'ND' chicklet on the bottom of the wheel... perforated vs non perforated... airbag logo (Flying M vs ND logo).

However, they will all "fit".

If interested check with Henry here https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...wheel-1087271/ to see what he has available. Reliable and helpful seller. This is one mod I wished I'd done years earlier than I did.

Does the airbag connect to existing connections without modification with the 2000+ Miata wheels?

it depends. On S8 RX7 1999-2002, the connectors of the miata 2000+ steering wheel airbag are plug and play. On earlier rx-7 versions, they are not.

All Nardi wheel will need connector modification, unless you swap out for the S8 clockspring, then they are PnP.

Anyone have the part number for the airbag with the Nardi logo? Curious if it's still available new.

N05557K00D. About $1,000 if they still have them. Used they are uber hard to find in good condition.
