Question Reinforcing interior plastics?

So, I bought some new interior panels from Ray and plan on installing them soon-ish. Before doing so, I'd like to reinforce and strengthen them. I recall reading various threads on the topic over the years but haven't found them when searching...

How can one reinforce the interior plastics like the dash hood and center console from the back so that they are stronger?

It seems like laying down some fiberglass is the only option to strengthen the parts as a whole.

Seems like you can use Plast-Aid to strengthen things like posts and other protrusions but this product doesn't seem appropriate to apply to the whole underside of the parts in question - https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...w-pics-828143/

Please share your experiences. Thanks!

You can put a layer of stainless steel mesh under the fiberglass between the plastic. That'll give it a certain degree of flexibility.

Also, instead of a layer of fiber glass, I'd actually recommend a couple layers of carbon fiber. You get the same thickness with 3 layers of carbon, but putting the weave in different directions is what's going to give you more strength in all directions. Obviously a lot more money, but you're talking probably a couple yards at most to do all your interior pieces.

FWIW when I reinforced the hinge, I used frp on the underside of the map pocket lid and then covered the frp with some black vinyl. It’s worked for several years now,

Spray it with bed liner, the hard core kind, not the rubber kind that peels.
