Rear hatch creaking?

Hey guys, my rear hatch recently started making creaking sounds as I drive, not too terrible but enough to notice. Anyone have a solution to tighten it up or stop it? Thanks!

Usually it's those 2 rubber bumpers that have worn. New ones are not too expensive and usually fix the issue.

Yep. Also probably worth checking the hinges at the top for looseness.

So, I too had this issue and new rubber bump stops did nothing to stop the squeak. It's also not the pillow ***** as I just replaced those as well. I did notice above the rubber bump stops on my hatch it appears there used to be something attached up there, that is, before I had the car repainted. Now, there is nothing, which I surmise allows the metal hatch to rub on the new bump stops. So, I've taken some felt with adhesive on the back and affixed it on the hatch above the bump stops. I'm guessing my problem is now gone, but I haven't taken the car back out yet to test. Worth making sure you still have the felt on your hatch above the rubber bump stops.

I checked mine and it looks like some kind of thick tape was put there

I'd say it's worth a shot covering that area up with some felt and then seeing if that resolves the issue. I'll let you know what happens with mine once I get the car out. It's been raining the last few days but is supposed to clear up tomorrow.

I put the fuzzy side of a self adhesive velcro strip on mine in those areas and it's been squeak free for years.

You can adjust the hatch latch catch lower.

I had a nasty case of hatch squeak and from memory some wd40 on the latch completely fixed it.

Oh really? Maybe I just have to do that. The bump stops look almost brand new, and it hatch it tight. Ill mess with it later today, so thanks! I was hoping there was an adjustment

PUtting felt on the areas identified on the trunk lid solved my squeaking issues. Of course, once it went away, I now can hear a rattle coming out of the bin located battery. It's always something.

Thanks for this thread.

Was annoyed by I N T E N S E rear hatch squeaking. Tried lubricating the hatch seal and bumpers with shinetsu rubber grease- no luck.

Happened to see this thread and put some 1/16" thick self adhesive super dense foam on the hatch where the bumpers ride and boom- no more squeaks.

Got a ton of tire noise, some wind noise and a bit of noise from the solid steel mounted transmission, but that all sounded like a symphony to my ears after the intensity of fhe squeaking I had been enduring.
