RE Amemiya big outlet fender ducts

Has anyone ever installed this on their fenders? I'm not sure if I have to trim the oem fender duct surround in order to get the ducts to fit.

This is what I'm talking about:

These are the ducts.

The shaded part of the oem fender looks like it needs to be trimmed?

That would be my guess - remove the stock ducts, trim the fender, and install.

That drawing in the instructions looks just like a fender with no duct.

For future reference, I emailed RHDJapan.com and they stated that it was an "oem fit", which I assume means no trimming needed.

I got them to fit without trimming the highlighted parts. There were a few spots with huge clumps of glue that needed to be sanded down since they were hitting the marked spots. Once they were reduced, the vent fit in without any problems.

No problem.

As for pics, still waiting for the paint to dry. I thought the steel grate stood out too much so I painted it black to keep in line with the OEM ducts.

Ok, I have an update regarding fitting. I found that you're much better off if you test fit the vents and sand down the parts of the oem fender that may protrude out and prevent a totally flush fitting. The parts that may need sanding/grinding down are the outlined areas in the diagram. I got them to fit before without the sanding but they didn't totally sit flush.

Oh, and here's a pic of how they looked installed before pulling them off and sanding down the fender.

Thank you!

I have a fairly stock body VR FD (just Top Fuel CF spoiler, lowered and wheels) so that really gives me a good idea how it would look.

I like it!

In the Mazda parts microfiche the stock plastic surrounds are under "BODY EXTERIOR TRIM" > "COWL AND EXTRACTOR GRILLES" > "GRILLE(R)FENDER" and "GRILLE-LT, FENDER"

Class rules say-
I. Spoilers/splitters and cosmetic trim pieces are permitted. Side skirts
may not be used. Spoilers/splitters must comply with the following:

So, I would think these would qualify as "cosmetic trim pieces". If not these, than what is a cosmetic trim piece exactly?

Only complaint I could see is that they could increase oil cooler performance, but actually oil coolers are free in the class and you can even move them to an opening fed by a splitter if you want.

What can I say, good wax job? I was really confused for a few minutes since I didn't think I left out any Home Depot bags in the pics. I had to zoom in on my phone to finally get it, lol.
