Quick Review: Sake Bomb Garage WeatherShield car cover
Hello everyone. I just wanted to share some quick thoughts on the WeatherShield car cover from Sake Bomb Garage that I bought recently. I live in Miami, Florida and I figured I'm not the only one who wants/needs a strong car cover that will keep the 7 protected from the elements and with so many to choose from, maybe this will help some of you to make the final decision.
The quality of the cover is top notch. All stitching and seems look nice and tight, no loose ends or stray fabric. The cover's finish is perfectly uniform and there are no deviations or imperfections. The first thing you'll notice is this cover is very light. At first, I questioned how strong it might be because it is so light, but after using it you can see it holds up really well to the abuse.
The fitment is super tight, but in a couple areas on the nose. This is due to me choosing their custom cut '99 front and '99 wing cover, to accommodate my front lip and rear spoiler. I decided better to be a touch too big in one area, than to have it be too small and not cover the car. All other areas of the car are glove tight and you can tell there was a lot of attention to detail in making this cover fit properly.
When using the cover, you'll also notice the incredible way it sheds water. The cover must be treated with some kind of special hydrophobic coating because water dances on the cover. It beads up instantaneously and sheds off the cover very easily.
Lastly, the cover seems to also do a good job keeping the car cooler when exposed to direct sunlight. I opted for the blue color which really reflects the light/heat effectively. I was tempted to go for black, to match my car, but alas Heath talked me out of it for the benefits of the heat reflection. He was right.
I'll leave you guys with a few pictures so you can see what I'm talking about. In these pics I had my stock wheels on, but I don't think that will affect it's fitment at all. With my GramLights, there's no discernible difference.
Thanks for reading guys, hope this helps someone out in choosing a cover! Shout out to the boys at Sake Bomb too, who continue to bring us quality products.
Just food for thought but, if we can find something for $5 or $10 cheaper online someplace today, we probably won't find it ever in the future. The big company's view the RX-7 as a dead end. Supporting company's like SBG is important to the longevity of our cars. We all love to modify and protect, but the market is so much smaller for these cars these days, that we will at some point not have options and won't be able to see products we want or need brought to market. Consider that when making purchases for your RX-7 and help keep people like Sake Bomb Garage in business. It's for your own benefit.

I have the same cover in gray. A huge improvement over my Coverite car cover from Amazon. I agree with you in that it is a high quality, super light, well stitched, and perfect fit cover. I didn't have to use tarp hooks to keep the cover on the car anymore. It spent all winter in the driveway without having flying off from the wind. Brushing off the snow was a breeze. Best of all, the neighborhood stray cats don't climb and sit on my car anymore, in addition to constantly pissing and scratching on my old car cover. Highly recommended.
The only issue I have is when it rains, there's always a puddle that sits between the wing and hatch area (I know I can place something underneath to elevate it). I understand that it is hydrophobic, and it repels water really well. Ice doesn't even stick to it, I can just lift off the ice from the cover in the winter!

Mine's holding up great. I got no logo on the front of my cover though.

I have one for both the FD and my NB Miata..... they fit like a glove and work really well at keeping the rain at bay, even in these Flawda summer torrential downpours. Highly recommend them

I've always been told that car covers aren't a good thing--that your car needs to have a good wax layer on it and be pretty much spotless before the cover goes on, or else you'll end up with micro scratches in the paint--swirl marks, and at worse you could get some real scratches in there from any dust/dirt that's caught underneath or in the fabric of the cover.
I suppose that's better than gradual UV exposure though?

With a loose fitting cover, I think the concern is real, because you run the risk of the cover moving about and ultimately scratching, or technically speaking - mar the paint.
Whenever you put a car cover on, you always would apply it to a clean vehicle. If you do have a small amount of dirt on the paint, you may mar it a bit, yes. However, like you said, the UV damage to the paint would be far more significant than some minor marring of the paint. Any "damage" done by a cover would be easily polished out.
You should definitely use a cover, in my view.
