Questions about stock air intake sensor replacement
My stock AIT sensor occasionally sets an error code (11) and the check engline light comes on, but eventually goes off again. I have a new, stock sensor. Because of its difficult location and mounting angle, it looks really hard to get a wrench or socket squarely on the old one, and even if I could get it it out, I'd have a tough time reaching in to get the new sensor threaded in. So, I think I'll have to unbolt the extension manifold to get at the sensor. I have a new gasket for that too. Do I need to use any silicone or gasket cement on the gasket? It looks like it is metal.
Thanks
Pete

Nope, you don't need anything on that gasket. It will seal perfectly as it is.
If you're getting a code I would suspect either the sensor is flaky or the wiring or connector to it. Definitely give the connector and wiring a good once-over when you're in there.
Pulling the upper intake manifold is a rite of passage for owning an FD, it's something you may do more than you would think .

Thanks Dale. I've had the connector off to check it and the wire and they were ok (but I will recheck them), so I figured it was the sensor. I've never had the UIM off before and am not looking forward to it. The car has only 57K miles and the engine is peachy.
