Members w/ Blitz FMIC,Koyo radiator, and Dual OEM R1 oil cooler HELP!

Hi all,

Recently I was able to sort used set of R1 dual oil cooler. During my attempt to install it, I noticed the hard line that link the two oil cooler together seem to be in the way of the radiator fan shrouds.
So I went ahead and removed the radiator/fan shrouds to install the dual oil cooler, does anyone here have any picture of their setup that they could share with me please?
-Also where/how did you located the power steering cooler line? "my ps oil line cooler was mickey moused so.... I just want to take my time and do it right!

Stock setup prior:
Stock single oil cooler, Blitz FMIC, Koyo radiator.

Thank you

I have a Blitz FMIC and a Koyo.

There may be easier ways to do it, but this is what I did -

- Replaced the hard line that goes from the front cover to the passenger oil cooler with a braided line with AN fittings. The stock hard line is all kinds of in the way, you MAY be able to make it work but it would be really difficult.

- I got a small power steering cooler -
Amazon Amazon
Cut out the stock loop, put hose over the ends of the stock hard lines, and ran it to that cooler. Mounted it up front on the back side of the front crash support.

I did all this probably 8 years ago so a lot of the details are fuzzy now. But, the car has been dead reliable since the install.

Dale,
During my research, I believe I came across your post/write up a few years back!! I didn’t want to revive an extra old thread! But thanks for sharing what you did.

I’m Hoping to be able to keep everything as stock as possible, without remove the hard oil link line.

I will post mor pictures of my progress.

Thanks again!

Great resource. Thanks for this!

Unfortunately I can't add specifically to this, but hoped you could help me understand the dual cooler set up.

Is it plumbed in parallel, with dual thermostats, or is it plumbed in series, i.e. when the main (only) thermo opens, oil flows through both coolers then back to the engine?

I'm asking as I have a single cooler setup (Series 5 Type RB), and need to figure out how much custom work it would be to install a dual cooler setup from an aftermarket manufacturer (e.g. HKS or greddy).

Much appreciated!!

The FD dual cooler setup is run in series. It has a bypass valve.

Stay in your seat some for a moment... idk what the hell is going on..but let me explain.

The OEM R1 dual oil cooler are plumbed in SERIES.. sequences are in this configuration.

From my research this how a thermostats would work.
Oil leave from the (Oil filter neck) entering the thermostats side (label yellow)
There is a by pass hole labelled (RED) so that the oil does not have to travels through the fins.
IF the oil is too hot, the thermostats would open blocking the (by pass labeled in red)
Ultimately, forcing the oil to run through the fins for cooling purpose..

Now if you have the OEM Dual oil cooler, then the exiting will get link in SERIES with the passenger side cooler.

NOW I thought the flow pattern was that.
But last night with all my lines are out, I had to get the start to start to run a quick test.
Anticipating that the oil would come out from the oil filter neck line, I had a bucket there to catch the running oil.
However oil sprayed out from the (suppose to be entry)

Thanks again!

Thanks, @PlanktonBB ! So... it's plumbed in series?
Where's the thermostat - somewhere closer to the block??

The thermostat is on the side with the big bolt. When you look inside you should see the spring for the valve.
