Nice. Yeah all the little crap is worth doing with a new motor and it adds up quick - coolant hoses, OMP lines, various bolts, nuts, and studs, etc. etc. etc.

When I install an engine I don't want to have to go back in there any time soon, get it all done right with good, new gaskets and hoses and you don't have to worry.

Copy that Dale...as always it is "pay me now or pay me later" and later is often more costly.

Thanks for that info. Hope mine never needs it. Will these crate motors ever be NLA? If so, worth it for a crazy person to buy one as backup?

I'd get a spare (with all the trimmings) if I had the money or the space.

Every part will most likely be NLA at some point. Whether it's next week or 10 years is the real question.

I really hope they keep this up, this is a HUGE boon to the community.

Having an RX-8 now I can really appreciate the new FD motors. RX-8 remans are about $4000 and you need to return a core and it's a total crapshoot as to what you get - mix of old and new parts, some maybe worn past spec, maybe used seals, who knows.

currently they have a whole Rotary engine factory that is tooled up to make Rx8, FC and FD engines, so that is what they are doing. When they retool the factory to make something else, that will be it.

Wish they'd make 20B's. Relatively speaking, a new one shouldn't cost that much more than a 13b. Imagine being able to pick up a new 20b for $8k?

Wow. Had no idea. To think a few years ago a used one with unknown quality could fetch $10k. $14k seems high vs pricing for a 13b, but I guess that might be volume related.

i just checked, just now, and its $9872..... the part number is in the parts catalog, but most people assume its NLA or something, also Mazda USA won't carry it so you need a vendor which doesn't buy from Mazda USA

That's good to hear. I felt bad thinking people were cannibalizing JC Cosmos for their 20Bs over there.

Now that is mind blowing. Any thoughts on how to find a vendor? I'd try Ray Crowe but I'm guessing he sources from Mazda USA.

There used to be a guy who was working at the U.S. reman plant posting updates on 8 club. From what I recall, they were refining the quality of the builds over time. He ceased posting after awhile due to someone higher up at Mazda directing him to do so. I miss that thread, even though it's probably been 8 or 10 years since someone last posted.

Pretty sure that was staged. That is a less than reputable shop. And of all the new ones around, none have posted anything about having an issue anywhere close to that.

+1 you can see its straight before they "find" it bent. also they say no more edits, and then there are tons.

i now only build CPR motors from new blocks and do a 6 page spec sheet on them prior to doing my thing with them on the rebuild. i have found all of them beautifully machined without exception. there is a paint dot on every piece down to the tiny screws pinning the bearings!

the one item that apparently can't be machined to spec is cornerseal to sideseal clearance. i am quite sure a non-machine---that'd be human---does it. quite sure, because clearance is all over the place. the last motor i did had one side seal at .017! i generally find half of the SS are clearanced more than .007. clearance should be approx .002.

i had to use two feeler gauges as i didn't have anything larger than .015 in my rotor feeler gauge tray;

other than that, the new blocks are beautiful. i am expecting delivery of a new block in two weeks for my FD which will be the first time i have had one in my RX7.

Sorry for posting anything related to AM, I didn’t realize they were such scum. I had a very similar situation with a dude named Brian Gray in Smithfield, NC. He destroyed my FD. I took him to court over it and got a $12,000 judgement placed against him. He skipped town, so I never got any of the judgement money.
