Input shaft repair

I've never heard of this 'fix' for a worn input shaft, but then I'm far from experienced with that stuff. FWIW a couple years ago I had a pretty comprehensive rebuild done on my transmission by a local shop...originally for a noisey input shaft bearing. After disassembling he spec'd out all the stuff and mentioned that I almost waited too long as the bad bearing was starting to gall. The input shaft ended up polishing up pretty well but the guy told me the only real fix if it had been too bad was a new shaft. IIRC at the time he said those ran about $500. He indicated that it was expensive because most of his normal suppliers didn't carry parts for the transmission and the only source was MAZDA. He went thru Ray @ Malloy for what he needed on mine.

I hadn't heard of this before which is why I posted it to see if anyone had done this. The only reason I was looking is because the input shaft bearing is making a noise on my OS Giken gear set (have put a std box back in now for the time being)
