Yea but the MR2 does have more JGTC championships under its belt than the FD, the 3sgte engine it uses also has a **** ton of JGTC wins in the Supra chassis and several WRC wins in the Celica chassis. FYI JGTC is the Le Manns amongst imports and mainly japanese cars.

Its a good car that is underestimated by most people, as proven by the responding posts on this forum.

And I didn't write that post but it does make a good point, if your looking for a good rwd Japanese Import for tracks and hill-climbs and moneys a factor what else would you choose?

I am glad all of you are flush with cash so that money is not a factor in your car purchase, but for some of us it is, so we choose the poor-mans ferrari (aka MR2) to garner exotic car performance out of a cheaper chassis.

But if were going for all out performance on the cheap, buy a bike. Im just merely comparing it to other Japanese Imports in its class.

Also ugly is an opinion. For example, I think this bone stock TRD2000gt looks better than any bone-stock FD, and many Japanese cars have copied its trend setting factory wide-body for aftermarket applications.

It also comes with 490hp from the factory as well (Source: wikipedia)

Here you go, Gordon. Ask Dave about it.

If I wanted a very cheap rwd Japanese import I would go with the 280z or 260z. But for the price you are going to spend getting your "Ferrari" performance (I can't laugh enough at that comment) I could do the same with a **** box Honda. I can respect a car that is built to be fast, but it is still a modded econo box. Much like the Srt-4, they can be very very quick, at the end of the day it is still a Neon.

Just like with any car it is going to cost to modify, how much do you have in your current car? I read somewhere around 20k, wow that is so cheap there is no way I could get another performance car for that price!

Look you seem a little agitated at the moment by me simply saying that the MR2 is a fun, good car if performance and a cheaper price range is what your looking for.

And yes I did spend a lot on mine because I attempted to build it with brand new parts (turbo kits ain't cheap on my salary), but on a used motor and didn't give the car a proper inspection upon purchase, plus it was a bit of a lemon which you will find with a lot of 20 year old modified used cars.

Theres no warranty on aused motor so if it goes, your out the money which is something several RX-7 owners should be familiar with by now.

If I had held out and didn't build up a 11 second MR2 that wasn't aesthetically appealing, I could of bought a 9-second turn-key MR2 for 15-20k off of ebay and it would of been fast enough to keep maybe not you, but me, happy.

Oh and Ferrari like performance, well a 93+ can brake check a c6 zo6 and it does garner the same skidpad as a Ferrari F40 (.94g) from the factory, it also runs faster quartermile times stock to stock vs mid 90's FD's and Supra twin turbo's (maybe not the US Supra TT though), I have video evidence of that. Out of the box, its simply a good car.

It is a good looking car with LOADS of power in a very light chassis. BUT how can you compare a car where only 35 were produced by Toyota to a mass produced model? Not to mention what Toyota charged for those things...

Most on here really are not "haters" of other cars. In fact, a lot on here drive and race other makes/models in addition to the FD.

To sell my FD and pick up another car. Honestly I think it would be the NSX or a Porsche GT3RS (with LOTS of saving of coarse). Or to go a little less expensive I think I would pick up a C5 vette and twin turbo it.

JGTC doesnt really mean much man. Especially since some classes have cars that arent even streetable cars anymore.

FD's are used more vastly now then MR2's. At japanese circuit tracks, autox and drag. This is taking into account how much MORE money it is to build it right and to buy the car first.

I know you didnt make that post but since you're an mr2 fan, posting it here on an rx7 forum is being biased and almost like you're provoking an mr2 vs fd argument.

If you really werent, then im sorry but it looks like you were.

Also, IMHO an mr2 is NOT a poor mans ferrari. I would say the NSX is 1000x more likely in that category than the mr2. An mr2 to me is just another toyota sports car, like the supra. JUst because its mid engine doesnt mean much. I mean think about the fiero. lol

If i wanted a cheap sports car for hill climbs that was cheap, i would consider something AWD. Like the celica AWD. Or even something subaru.

WOOOOOW. I just wet myself.

As for the MR2 talk, you can probably get more for your money with a Civic. I like MR2s but spending so much cash on a car like that seems like a waste to me. The thing I really like about FDs is that it looks the part. I've spent alot on my FD and people rag on me for dropping so much into an old car but when they finally see the car in person, they understand. I don't think I would get the same reaction from an MR2 (or a Civic). I obviously don't care what people think of my car and I'm sure MR2 owners are the same way so whatever.

I would like to see how a well built MR2 would fare at deals gap though. We did see a bunch last year but they only cruised through.

I think the problem is, he was banned on the MR2 forum.

Just needs paint really, though I could upgrade the interior. There are some pretty wild versions of this flying around. Especially the 62S variants out there. I have thought of seeing if I could create an alternate engine mounting setup for a 12a where I could go from the Renault to the rotary and back easily.

Supernaut... You'd love these little things and the thing is, we're talking about cars we'd get as interesting for little dollars, lets say, and the Europa's can be bought for $7-15,000. A perfect collectors car would have trouble hitting $20,000.

Gordon

I think you'd be smarter not to turbo the rotary. I remember seeing an N/A rotary Europa at an autocross in Richmond when I was in college. At 1850 lbs, an aggressively ported 2-rotor would be all you need.

There was also a Europa S that had a lotus twin cam in it (I believe) rather than the Renault. That's the one to have.

These things are like little go-karts...

My father daily drove a JPS Europa when he was in his 30s and sold it right before my oldest brother got his license. Awesome little cars for sure. People ask me how I fit in my FD at 6'3". My dad and I are the same height, I imagine he got the same question about the Europa.

I'm still stuck on my first and only choice for a replacement:

1971-1978 Datsun 240Z, 260Z, 280Z - With a 2JZ swap

:]

Here's my brother's ~450rwhp RB25 '78 280Z for reference in awesomness:

I know its your opinion you'd take a civic over an mr2 but some people might find that offensive. Im not an mr2 fan at all. I like both civics and mr2's but id pick an mr2 over a civic. Just cause its rwd and toyota. Id try to fit a 2JZ in there

a 2jz wont fit in a Mr2; unless you have a lot of money to dump into it, and even then it probably still wouldn't be worth it. Most people just do the 3vzfe or a similar v6 swap.
