How to value your FD
Yep I understand the MB sold for 35 but IMO it was over bid or was a 29k FD.
This one could easily sell for 40, or be over bid as well. I say the sale will be approx 35 with the over at 40 and under at 30.
I still feel like the best deal on an FD is NOW. Most of the people who've been sitting on the fence will likely end up paying more not less vs whatever FD they can find today. Each day the price moves a little higher as the number of cars dwindle and the demand moves up a notch.
Again I don't get the BAT thing. You pay 5 percent for the privilege of buying an above market FD at an auction. Makes zero sense.

As mention, the crowdsourced type auction is probably why BaT is so popular. Everything is out in the open, more questions being ask that a buyer might not think of on a private sale etc.

Gotcha, agreed on the MB value. I too think waiting might not result in paying less for an FD, there will be good deals but those will dry up fast.

It would be really hard for me to pull the trigger on an FD being sold on BAT (unless it was being sold at typical auction/deal pricing) without seeing it or having someone I trust check it out. Then even if it checks out I wouldn't want to pay the price. It's just a weird place to buy, most of the time from what I can tell.
A friend of mine picked up an older BMW 135 manual trans for $14k off Autotrader, drove it for a year (not as a daily driver, just some weekends) and sold it on BaT for a little over $16k.

BAT is a sellers market when it should be a buyers market (auction).
I'll repeat, I don't get it. Your 95 was one of the few decent buys I've seen. After you took ownership you gave the next buyer a better deal here on the forum (still a great place to find good cars).
I think their formula for selling is clearly well thought out and works wonders but buyers can do better elsewhere with just a little effort/knowledge.
I only bought it because my friend who is a big BaT viewer had kept sending me FD auctions until finally I caved and started bidding. Once you get the adrenaline rush going you want to win.
Also, I detest the process of selling cars. I don't like all the questions, all the requests for very specific pictures, scrutinizing and arguing and tire kicking etc. When I sold to Johnny here on rx7club he knew what he was getting. We did a very seamless ACH transfer and bill of sale, and it was gone in 3 days. I picked him up from a hotel next to the airport and he drove it home that morning. No hassle, only informed questions, respectable price, and a buyer who understands that there are risks involved with buying an FD on an original 60k mile engine.

What's everyone's thoughts on the '95 VR w 75k on BaT going for 30k plus fees?
I think this was a great deal given the new motor, turbos, clutch, pillowballs, wheels, etc..
The repainted fender, emissions delete, tan interior, and higher chassis miles prevented me from moving on it.

Nice clean 95 with lots maintenance done equals smart buy from what I can tell. Install a pfc and have Pettit tune it and someone can enjoy it for a long time.
Pettit makes no apologies in executing their vision of an oem+ FD. But, I wonder how that impacted the sale price. A factory stock 95 with a super fresh rebuild should have brought more, in my mind.

Thoughts on the $44.5 asking price of this 1 owner CYM with 61,500 miles?

Engine, turbo, bushings (pillow and diff) rad, ast, exhaust, etc... DONE!!!! This is basically like getting this car for 20k. Again good buy.
Hey guys, new here. I thought I would chime in because I'm going through the whole BaT process right now. I'll cut to the chase: I was the highest bidder on the most recent FD on BaT but reserve was not met.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...33/?prompttm=1
In my case, I'm actually quite glad that reserve was not met. Why? I don't get charged the 5%, but I still get to work out a deal with the seller. Of course, there's no strings attached to either side, but so far, things are going well and hopefully, I'll have an FD next week. I think most BaT prices are absolutely moronic, but add on another 5% and it's just dumb. I think the ONLY time that BaT can be useful/a helpful tool, is if you get lucky with bidding prices that are below market value. If you roll in 5% from there and include it to the total "out the door" price of the car, it's not that bad. That was actually what I was hoping for, but I think a RNM worked out better for me since I have no strings attached.
I'm still weary of purchasing a car unseen, especially for an FD that doesn't have the records to prove it's streetport rebuild claim. However, I think I'm willing to roll the dice since I would be purchasing at under market value and I know what I'm getting myself into. I currently own an FC that has treated me incredibly well during my short ownership, but I've always lusted over the FD ever since watching Tokyo Drift when I was 12 lol. On top of that, I have a reliable daily so I won't have to worry about transportation and such. I guess my point is that I'm incredibly excited to potentially own an FD and hopefully everything works out from here. Hope to see you around in the threads, guys!
Cheers,
Doug

Nice to see a fd still on the road with that amount of milage. I have only 115000 miles on it but I bought it to drive and enjoy. I would not mind buying a collector low milage car for resale but I have to have another fd to enjoy driving. These cars were built to drive in my opinion.

The low mileage cars are still worth driving. IMO you can't find a better/more fun sports car for 30k. They also won't depreciate but if you buy one with high mileage you may end up spending 10 to 20k just maintaining it LOL.
