I have all 3 of the books (FC, FD, and RX-8). They are fantastic. The FD book really gives you an appreciation for the car, the design, and what went into building it. The photography is awesome in the book too.
While we're on the topic, Brian Long's book is an excellent and pretty accurate RX-7 history -
Yeah, the Yamaguchi book is hyper-focused on the car, the development of the car, and all the little things about it. There is some history in the back, mainly racing and some stuff about the 89-91 RX-7.
They're both classics – Street Rotary is a bit more technical while the Performance Handbook is a bit more general.
I grabbed Brian Long's book (3rd Edition) in the summer when it was on sale at Amazon at about $30. Definitely worth getting while it's still in print.
Never Stop Challenging! is great if you're a rotary fan, particularly if you're interested in Mazda's 1991 Le Mans victory.
Mazda Rotary-Engined Cars by Marc Cranswick is in my shopping basket – I'll let you guys know if it's any good when I get it.
And I want to get Yamaguchi's RX-8 book later, when I can find one in good condition.
The Yamaguchi RX-8 book is good, it's just like the RX-7 book but on the RX-8 (duh). Same level of detail and type of content.
Never Stop Challenging! is damn near impossible to find. They highlighted it on an episode of Motor Trend TV YEARS ago. I remember looking for it when that episode aired and couldn't find it. It's either not available or available for some obscene amount of money.
I actually have a videotape somewhere that is the highlights/story of the whole 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans - it wasn't made for rotary people, it was made for fans of the race, I think they did something similar for each year or whatever. I remember it being pretty cool, but it's been a LONG time since I've owned a VCR!
peter told me about your car prior to the fallout while at summit point one summer..
was still very much in the green about single turbo swaps at the time.. i should say in denial moreso as i was at the time still pro working sequentials..

have that one too... most of my rotary treasures still in moving boxes.. i should try and dig that one up too
that black one on the cover looks like del vechios FD..
Did Del buy Phil's car? Peter and I had just gotten back from driving Phil's car when Mike did these shots.
not sure... looks awfully familiar
del had pfs bits on his car and similar wheel.. he might have bought it off phil...
time frame of when del had the fd was in the late 90s if that says anything..

It's worth tracking down. The author was a driver for Mazda for many years with lots of first-hand experiences documented. It was difficult to find a source even before it was produced, as it was only officially sold in Europe, published by a Belgian company (Apach) and retailed for £79.99, so it was never a cheap book. It was available in Japanese, so you need to watch out for that.

Just snagged one of these for a good price from eBay, can't wait for it to arrive! Prices are pretty strong for a used book, this one was the only one I found for under $25.
"Mazda Rx-7 Sports Car Color History" by John Matras from Matras
"Rx7 Mazda's Rotary Engined Sports Car" by Brian Long from Veloce (The Brian Long book is equal to the Yamaguchi book, imo. Extremely detailed and covering every Rx7 model. Brian is married to a Japanese woman and lives in Japan and is good -- drinking buddies -- with Koby.)
