FD Power Steering Leak

Hi All,

Kind of a basic question here -

I have a 93 JDM FD that is leaking power steering from the high pressure line coming off the pump. I can feel the frayed/peeling hose about 1/4 inch above where it meets the metal end pictured and it really starts leaking when I turn the wheel.

My questions:
1. Does anyone have a temporary fix that could really slow the leak since it's the rubber hose that is the problem? (I know it's under pressure)
2. Does that hose come off of the metal where it's joined or is it all once piece that needs to be replaced all together
3. Are there any aftermarket lines I can buy or do I have to seek out an OEM JDM line?
4. Is there an easy way to disable power steering all together temporarily without doing a delete?

You really need to replace the whole line. May be worth talking to a local hydraulic hose shop and see if they can rebuild it for you, you'd need to get the line off the car and take it to them.

To temporarily disable get a rental car .

Thanks Dale! I'm definitely replacing the whole line - just wanted to prevent pushing off taking it for other work this week while I waited for parts. Is OEM the only/best option? I have a RHD car, are the two interchangeable?

1. There's really no viable temporary fix for this.
2. Nope, at least it's not supposed to - the hose is crimped onto the metal.
3. Your options are to get a new OEM line from Mazda, or as Dale suggested, remove the entire line and take it to a local hydraulics shop to see if they can rebuild it for you. If they can source a suitable crimp fittings that fit both ends you may be in luck.
4. Yup, just remove the drive belt from the pump. It will suck driving it that way, as you'll be fighting the fluid in the rack when turning the wheel, and you won't have A/C either because it's the same belt, but it will get you around until the parts arrive.

RHD and LHD return lines don't interchange. If you wanted to try for one, F100-32-490B, but any hydraulic shop worthy of the name, should be capable of remaking.

Can't remember what the AC/PS pump mount would do to protect the line, but must be a bit of movement of your engine to wear through on that sharp edge, unless the 8mm bolt attachment to the subframe is missing too.
