Does Adam @ rotaryengine.com /REC provide quality engine rebuild?
Does anyone have solid data that rotaryengine.com provides good quality engine rebuild? I'm interested in going pretty far with their build options: most of their reliability/performance offerings including studding, oil mod, balance, possible combustion clearance with 8.8 rotors, etc. It's a shop located in Calgary. Adam is the owner/builder's name. He sounded like a knowledgeable guy on phone who said he builds multiple engines every week including pretty frequent 3 rotor builds. I figured there should be many on here who has his engine running in a car. Engine getting rebuilt is 3 rotor , so I just wanted to make sure the reviews are solid before proceeding. I wanted to ask about his build quality, communication, turnaround time, reliability, and whether the engine at least met your expectations for your particular setup. I would most value a real world feedback from members here much higher than everything else. Thanks in advance.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Two of my local buddies have had bad experiences from REC. He'll showcase a perfect motor and then have his 'slow' employees do the majority of the builds to less than quality standards.
Have you looked into Freelance Motorsports?

I haven't had anything built by him but I did buy a couple of things from Adam. I was pretty happy with his prices, shipping, and service.
The Wird (Marco) is also on here. He owns a shop in Toronto that builds engines. Most of the cars around here have been tuned by him.

thanks guys for both pos and neg reports. I find it odd there aren't any members here who had their engines built by them. they seem very busy pumping out engines after engines. I figured most rx7 owners would be on this forum! I also bought stuff from him before, and that went well.

I used to work for Adam 12+ years ago. He's built my Semi PP engine which I've never ran yet, but he's also built 2-4 other engines for me that we have installed successfully. I prefer OEM Apex Seals as we have found them impossible to warp, but besides that most of his suggestions and modifications are pretty good. He's also recently invested in CNC equipment and now does most those processes in house, as well as balancing in house. He doesn't tune, he rarely builds the car, and advice in those areas is less knowledgeable. But Adam has been building Rotary engines for decades, and has always been improving their build.
Anyone who speaks of other employees probably hasn't been to that shop in a long time. For nearly 5-8 years it's only been Adam and Mike.

Top Quality!
Adam was excellent to work with. Adam built my bridgeported 20B, and did alot of fabrication and installation for me.
I can't imagine anyone having a bad experience with Adam, other than there being more to the story that people are leaving out. Adam won't sugar coat anything for you, which is what I liked about dealing with him. If you aren't taking his advice - you're gonna have a bad time. That's really what it boils down to.
I would not consider using anyone else, my 20b has been reliable and trouble free for going on 3 years now.
Just came across this thread on google looking for something else, thought I would chime in.
Adam at REC is excellent.

I know this is a pretty old thread, but for anyone else searching for a builder I thought I would add my 2 cents. Through a build you deal with many companies and/or businesses. Out of all of them I’ve dealt with REC has been by far the best. Not to say other businesses were bad but my specific situation (see RPM review thread) Adam went far above and beyond what I expected, and I believe he is the reason I got my money back and have a completed 20b at this time. The communication was outstanding, updates were outstanding, I did not have to reach out once for updates or build progress. He even makes himself available on the weekend for help or advice for installs during his personal time. 10/10 highly recommend.

totally agree. i have worked w Adam on many of the motors i have built for myself and customers. i like the quality of his machine work, especially honing, which should be done on all used rotor housings. he recently did my personal motor w 16 studowels and they are a perfect fit. i also use his REC apex seals in most of my builds. a good guy who takes an interest in the quality of his work.

it’s his way or the highway
not intending anything negative by posting it, just letting anyone who might want something different than the way he does it know what to expect.
on the otherhand, Chip’s Motorsports is very flexible and willing to accommodate customers as best he can.
