I would love to snag an innocent blue mica FD. Love that color and wish we would have gotten it here but they didn't import the FD long enough here.

BC 1992s Up for Bid

Two 1992's up for grabs this week in Japan. One rated "2" the other "R" with lots of flaws. Both low kms. Let's see what happens!

BC Floor Rising

This beat up Grade D interior, Grade E exterior, overall grade RA 1992 (November) VIN 112526 car went for Y856,000 last night. Redeeming factor low KM at 36,000km. Not legal for US until November. Perhaps gives some time to fix it up before export? What other explanation for the high price, other than US export?

BC This week in Japan Auctions

Low number of cars coming up for auction this week (so far). Two low km 1992 examples though.

I've been looking a importing a nice S8

And well...I'm not looking for competition , as a matter of facts , less people know about it , better it is , more chance I have to get it for a better price.

I'm pretty sure everybody that is bidding on all those cars your posting thinks like me .

sooo...stop bringing the price up !!!

BC Yikes!

Sorry, 7krazyboi. Just had to report this. The red 92 above went for Y1,810,000 that's got to be a record! Bravo!

The cat is out of the bag it seems. Not my fault!

Where do we go from here?

Price reflects that a "collector" must have bought. Let's see if it shows up on our side of the pond.

BC Sweet Spot Still out There

Reasonable prices still being seen for 93 - 98, although it was news that the Aussies can now buy those years as well.

This 93 with 51k km and grade 2 was got for 678,000.

There seem to be about 40~50 FD up for auction each week, but the number actually sold seems to have slowed down to less than 10. So either the sellers are expecting too much, buyers are being more particular or there is some softness in demand.

I thought this might be helpful for determining how big the USDM RX7 market is, so see blow the number of REGISTERED RX7's as of January 2017.

93: 3736
94: 1497
95: 240

Great Data!

That is roughly 40% of original sales, depending on how original Canadian sales are figured in. That seems to be a very good survival rate. Could be encouraging to aftermarket or reproduction parts makers!

If we use the 10% (of US) rule for Canada, that could mean there are possibly 550, or so, original FD left in Canada. However, that does not seem likely.

Can you search the Canadian figures by Province? i.e. B.C., Ontario?

The program is capable of that, but I don't have access to it anymore, sorry. I had to ask a friend to pull the numbers for me as is. It would be pretty interesting though, because the program can actually narrow your search down to the zip code level....

BC Got the VIN?

We can check against recent auctions to see what the cost in Japan was.

BC Vin (104712) Matches Allright

Picture of engine bay shows VIN matched auction car listed above.

Looks like an about $8000 markup?

Well, that's their ask. They have storage and shipping costs too. But, yes. Markup. It's what the US market is doing right now for nice FD's. Dealers are buying them and holding them hostage.

You may be MORE safe with a reputable importer and inspector of the vehicle, but you will NOT be completely safe. I spoke to a dealer that is currently importing a 1992 FD. He told me that they do a good inspection at the auction in Japan, but since there is no Carfax, or equivalent to Carfax in Japan, there's no way to know for absolute sure that the car wasn't totalled and put back together by a really excellent body shop. I recently was looking at an R2 here in the USA, but decided against getting it. Well, another guy decided to get it, and everything checked out. The car was in excellent shape. The Seller was not the original owner. Well, right before this guy was gonna purchase it, he ran a Carfax, and ultimately found out that the car had been totalled, and put back together extremely well. The guy completely saved himself by running that Carfax, and did not get the car! Would have been a $24,000 dollar mistake!

BC Restored

Does "extremely well fixed" equal "restored". What issues are of concern? Bent frame? Can you get that checked?
