current market usdm FD pricing VS jdm imports
This beat up Grade D interior, Grade E exterior, overall grade RA 1992 (November) VIN 112526 car went for Y856,000 last night. Redeeming factor low KM at 36,000km. Not legal for US until November. Perhaps gives some time to fix it up before export? What other explanation for the high price, other than US export?

Watch for it.

I've been looking a importing a nice S8
And well...I'm not looking for competition , as a matter of facts , less people know about it , better it is , more chance I have to get it for a better price.
I'm pretty sure everybody that is bidding on all those cars your posting thinks like me .
sooo...stop bringing the price up !!!

Sorry, 7krazyboi. Just had to report this. The red 92 above went for Y1,810,000 that's got to be a record! Bravo!
The cat is out of the bag it seems. Not my fault!
Where do we go from here?

Reasonable prices still being seen for 93 - 98, although it was news that the Aussies can now buy those years as well.
This 93 with 51k km and grade 2 was got for 678,000.

There seem to be about 40~50 FD up for auction each week, but the number actually sold seems to have slowed down to less than 10. So either the sellers are expecting too much, buyers are being more particular or there is some softness in demand.

Great Data!
That is roughly 40% of original sales, depending on how original Canadian sales are figured in. That seems to be a very good survival rate. Could be encouraging to aftermarket or reproduction parts makers!
If we use the 10% (of US) rule for Canada, that could mean there are possibly 550, or so, original FD left in Canada. However, that does not seem likely.

The program is capable of that, but I don't have access to it anymore, sorry. I had to ask a friend to pull the numbers for me as is. It would be pretty interesting though, because the program can actually narrow your search down to the zip code level....
Well, that's their ask. They have storage and shipping costs too. But, yes. Markup. It's what the US market is doing right now for nice FD's. Dealers are buying them and holding them hostage.
If you go with a reputable export company in Japan and have a really knowledgeable person acting on your behalf at the auctions you will be safe from the garbage vehicles (accidents, bad paintwork trashed motors etc).
As for insurance, it really depends on the province, Alberta is pretty good, BC on the other hand...not so much......
