Cluster or speed sensor

ok I own a 1993 fd. Last couple of weeks.id sit at a light or on start up not moving .my mph would go to 10 or 20.once I drive, it would work as it should. Everything else works on cluster.after not driving it for 3 days.crazy heat wave no AC. now the mph only.does work at all.i went under car and speed sensor wiring looks great. Of course my 3.5 inch downpipe blocks area to get it out and inspect the teeth. Anyone want to chime in on whats going on here? Speed sensor or cluster???

Most likely the cluster. Cluster problems are VERY common and I don't think I've ever seen a problem with a speed sensor.

Yeah, I agree cluster. All the parts for a cap replacement can be found on the forums here..I reside mine, but only got back the tach intermittent function. I think my soldering iron got too hot at one point and caused damage. There's services out there to repair it also.

think my cluster went out too. drove to the store yesterday, pulled the key and let it run on the timer when i got back the mile counter was dark. didnt think much of it. today drove to work to get the state inspection and had no rpm or mph along with the counter. the adaptronics is not displaying vss. is that what the normal failure of the cluster?

It sounds like the instrument cluster. Specifically, the speedometer board. You can check out the links for a blank odometer and speedometer repair. You can use my screen name as part of the search criteria to speed things up.
