Look closer- it's in there.

I forget what it looked like, maybe a notched or toothed disc on the spinning part.

I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i found the speed sensor. it is actually inside the speedometer itself. for anyone interested, i'll tell you where it's at.

first off pull the instrument cluster out of the car. then remove just the spedometer from the cluster. examine the meter, and look on the bottom, in the back where the speedo cable plugs in. you will see what looks like two brass terminals with soulder connections at the tips. this is it. on each side of the terminals there is a screw, remove both, and a small section will come off. on the inside you will see what looks like a cross between a resistor and a fuse. shaped like a resistor, but is clear and has an element like a fuse. this is it, this is the speed sensor that is tied into the power steering system, and the cruise control system. if it is even possible to find a replacement sensor, it will only be a small matter of removing the old saulder(i know i am butchering the spelling of this) and replacing sensor, then resolder. now comes the fun part of finding a new sensor.

hope this helps somebody, and if this sounds familiar to anybody, and you know where i can find this piece PLEASE let me know
