Broken down FD
Broken down FD
Hi , I'm new to the forums,
I recently bought an FD . I drove it for a couple months then stored it in a shed.
when I came back to it, I connected the battery and it started first time. I was delighted. but since then I lost the shed and had no where to store the care but my drive, after a couple months I went to move the car but had no action.
I diagnosed it to be the old Clifford system in the car and got an autoelectrician to disconnect the system.
After disconnecting the car he started it twice without a problem and on the third it wouldn't start (I think he flooded the engine) I left it for a couple days and tried to start it again it will turn over but wont start. what would be the recommended thing to start stripping first?
UPDATE
I put fresh petrol and new spark plugs in the car. cranked it over and it started up idled for about 5 seconds then cut off. I went to start it again and the same thing happened again. I pulled one of the plugs to check if they got wet but they were fine. I cranked it over with one plug out to see if it was getting petrol but there was no spray coming out of the plug hole. would this suggest its not getting fuel?

Will it run if you hold the throttle at 2,000 rpm or so?
Idle cutting off could be an issue with idle control.
Not running when giving it throttle could be other things like the fuel pump, clogged fuel filter etc etc

it wont start up anymore for me to hold it at rpm. I took the pipe going to the fuel rail off and turned over showing that the petrol was moving to that point.
would the idler control be the next thing to change out so?

You probably want to check the air gaps and related settings on the throttle body first. There's a therad in the FAQ for that
The idle control solenoid is expensive. You don't want to throw parts at the car. You want to diagnose and test. The FSM has the procedures to test various failures. Suggest you download it and work through the recommended steps.
I personally never faced the issue you are having so I can't be much help other than hopefully pointing you at a self help resource
