Bonnet shocks for Carbon Fiber Bonnet???!

Hey all,

I been searching for a while and can’t seem to find any bonnet shocks for a Seibon CF bonnet. Anyone come across any specifically for Carbon bonnets?

Or any modifications that can be made??

Cheers

Edit- I don't see the struts listed on his site anymore . In any case, you should still contact the guy and see what's up.

I've yet to see hood shocks that were worth a crap. Most bow the hood when closed.

Get a titanium hood prop rod. Less weight, looks awesome, and fits with the low weight aesthetic of the FD.

thanks Dale... I like the hood shocks so it keeps things even on both sides for the CF bonnet. Every time I use my hood prop I feel as if the bonnet is lop sided 😣

would consider the titanium prop as well

cheers

you can get hood shocks that work. They just need to be the correct pressure. I ordered a set of shocks from www,guden.com. These are smaller in diameter than most shocks and I think I got 25lb shocks. Stock Hoods use the 40lb strut. You will have to source the upper bracket though. I am just going to order a cheap set of hood struts off ebay for the hardware.
GGN47-040-C is the 40 lb strut.

so GGN47-025-C should be the 25lb strut.

You'll also need the ball ends for either side that part number is EF090A-02. I think I ordered some M6 Screws with Ball ends as well. I don't have my receipt with me. It might be with the parts in the box in the garage my car is stored at currently. If I remember next time I'm out there ill look..

A lot of people have had good results using NRG struts. The eBay/EVO-R ones will rust on out you. Keep your stock brackets, they'll be re-used.

Isn't our aluminum hood lighter than -some- CF hoods? It certainly feels about the same weight than my Seibon.

I have the NRG, not even the ones for carbon fiber because they didn't make those when I bought them, still working well after 10+ years. They are a bit stiff but I'm tall with long arms and when I close the hood I just grab both sides right at the mounting points and close from there.

Yes, stock hood is I think 16lbs, the lightest CF hoods are maybe 12ish, most are closer to the weight of stock. But carbon hoods on an FD are for venting air, not weight reduction. My primary motivation for CF was so I don't have to pop my hood to vent heat every time I park.

Just a quick update. Installed the NRG shocks for the bonnet. Will try to post up some pics soon.

The fit was a bit tight but still made it work and the installation was easy and straight forward. Really love having it and makes working under the bonnet much easier. Was impressed on how far it would open as well and actually stay open. Would recommend to anyone looking to get some bonnet shocks!

Thanks for all the help on this.

Cheers
