Bogging and backfiring when full throttle

Hello,

I am new to the rotary world and I am seeking for some guidance on where to start trouble shooting.

car is a 93 FD RHD

when the car is cold and it’s just started it runs great but after it warms up it starts giving me problems when I accelerate and go full throttle. The car starts backfiring and bogging out pretty bad.

Thanks

Is the car stock? What ECU does it have?

General rule of thumb with a rotary, don't persist if it's unhappy, especially in the upper rev range. Multitude of possibilities......and no magic bullet offered here.

As a starter, I might check MAP sensor connection.....bad mechanical things can happen very quickly with it disconnected at the manifold or filter - or if the line is split. After that, the usual ignition - plugs, leads, coils, signs of water in chambers(gulp!)......and fuel - filter, pump, injectors, connectors might bear scrutiny, especially if it's sat for ages waiting for an O/S buyer.

If the more straightforward things don't produce anything, a 93 car's emissions harness was well cooked 20 years ago, then there's the potential for wheel arch harness rubs to cause all manner of gremlins too.

1st question: Stock or Modified ECU? PowerFC?

Without knowing more, it is kind of hard to help you. Could be a bad TPS sensor, or one that needs adjustment. Could be a bad map if you're running a powerFC. Your coils could be going bad. A MAP sensor issue. We need more information.

My wild *** guess is that you are running rich, really rich.

Are you blowing any black smoke under WOT?

Light throttle driving ok?

How much psi are you running? Running of a wastegate spring? Did it have an EBC previously?

The car is stock with stock turbos, it was freshly rebuilt by the old owner before I bought it. The car seams like it’s loosing fuel pressure or boost not sure.

you should check for codes, there are a bunch that will shut the thing down at ~1psi of boost.

in a JDM car you need to build an LED tester thing https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-r.../#post12500014

I think it's either the 3000rpm limit for codes or lack of fuel.

As someone who had these symptoms before my guess is a bad air intake temp sensor

just to emphasize the point already made; under these conditions your engine is potentially nitroglycerin and the throttle pedal is how hard it’s being shaken; be very, very careful or boom goes teh dynamitez … whatever you do, don’t be dropping the hammer until this is resolved.
