Good afternoon people! I have a situation and I'm wondering if you guys could help me out? So on my car's left quarter panel, the paint is cracking. Turns out that the bondo from back then wasn't applied properly. I'm looking at 3 options:
a: i could remove it, apply new bondo, and paint it myself. don't have the equipment nor experience to do it but i can always go on the internet and get some research done. get all the tools needed. might save me some money.
b: I could have someone else do it for me. I went to two shops today. Maaco quote me for 800 to 1000 dollars...could be more. and some local auto body shop and quoted me for almost 600(but kind of scared me. one of the worker went up to me and said nice comments to my car. i don't really want to be judgmental but he kind of look like a guy that would do stupid **** on your car. he said, "i can't wait to work on your car." and grinned. i dunno. i'm not feeling a good vibe on him.)
c: since i'm planning on putting wider wheels. I could just have it cut and put wide over fenders on.

I attached the pictures to show you guys what it's look like and circled it to show how big is going to be the repair. What do you guys think? If you guys have any ideas, that would be very helpful too. Thanks. Looking forward to hear from you guys soon!

Hi,

A. This is a job you should leave to professionals, do not try to do this yourself to save money
B. Maaco is only good for painting old crappy cheap cars where it doesn't matter all that much...if you paint it at the cheapest place possible then, well you get what you pay for. There is a reason why that guy was so excited, maybe they only get to paint corollas and civics.
C. I do like the feed overfenders but would never cut up a clean bodied car so I can't do it myself. Since yours has already been damaged in the past, I would consider that option because it does look pretty cool. To do this correctly, you would have to invest a decent amount of money. Better to do it right or not do it at all.

Are you in southern california?

Hmmmm makes sense. I'm in NorCal. So if I go with the feed rear fenders. How much money do you think we're talking?? LOL sorry for all the questions. I'm kind of a noob to car community. I'm still learning. anyway. do people would say that my car is rice since it's all stock, and I'm already shooting for a wider rear fender?

It's ok, everybody starts somewhere. April 22 there will be the Japanese Supercar Cruise starting in Milpitas going to Treasure Island. I will be there (probably in my truck) but there will be a LOT of very knowledgeable and friendly FD owners. You will see how it looks and you can ask those guys how much it costs and what shop did the body work, will be a great place to learn and get some ideas on where you can get good work done!

If you are going with some over fenders expect to pay more than what it costs for a simple repair. As with there is cutting to be done to your quarter panels (keep in mind that a repair might still be in order), installation, prep, and paint.

I'm in NorCal as well. I was recently quoted about 1K to do the rear FEED fenders on my FD. Looking at all the work that goes into it, 1K is reasonable.
