anyone use this style of gauge holder?

I am exploring options for mounting a single multigauge. I hate A-Pillar gauges and do not want to look down toward a DIN panel. I also have a single gauge so I wouldn't want to run a tripower or prosport pod in the center speaker.

I am thinking of using this with double sided tape for either the center speaker or on top of the steering column...does anyone have any pics of how this would look?

To each his own, but IMO that looks pretty cheesy. And doubt double-sided tape would hold long. Pettit and Amemiya offer a single pod for the column. And I know you don’t like them but FWIW a single A-pillar pod can be made to sit low and not affect visibility....IMO a better option than what you’re considering.

I have used those in the past on my FC, Greddy used to (I don't think they make them anymore, could be wrong) make gauge holders like that. They actually stick very well (they have the double-sided tape in the package) and the "fingers" of the base can be bent to accommodate a curve in the dash.

You do need some loom or something to put over the wiring so it's neat looking. It does have an industrial look to it and some gauges (cough Autometer cough) that have bobo looking backs will be meh.

That said, the Pettit steering column pod does sink the gauge down into the pod a little and angle it, with that you would have better visibility of the tach. The Pettit pod is really nice, it looks super clean and fits well.

That would look awful. Dont do it. Best bet is to get a steering column pod like Dale and Jim have mentioned.

Is the pettit one different from the one offered at rx7store? I would only want to use it if the material matches the rest of the dash pieces and steering column well.

FYI the Pettit pod is very similar in style to the RE-Amemiya pod, you see those every now and again on Ebay. But, the Japanese pods are made for RHD cars, and the turn signal/wiper stalks are reversed. In other words it will bolt up but you won't be able to properly use the stalks, they will hit the pod. Way easier to just get the Pettit one.

Yeah...because that Auto gauge ring with double-sided tape that you’re thinking about matches so well and no one will know that it isn't really stock.

it's just temporary for now so I can get my car tuned without the gauge flapping around

And is that an engine coolant temperature gauge on the A-pillar?

The gauges are just old Defi ‘D’ series gauges. They’re discontinued now but their font, needle color, black face and back lighting do match the stock dash pretty well. IIRC they make some others now that also look good. And yeah, it’s a coolant temp gauge. It’s reasonably accurate but I wish it had an alarm. The pod was trimmed down a bit so it would sit lower and has my green and red LED lights for WI.
