I saw it not a huge fan. If it's a street/drag car it's cool I guess but I bet the balance of that car is FUBAR now. It probably doesn't drive like a FD anymore. I imagine it feels like a big HP turbo truck fun but that's all it's really got.(No turbo lag though) It's a huge gimmick to tesla swap cars and most of the population think it's immediately better because TESLA HYPE. It mildly irks me the same way LS/2JZ swaps do, just kick mickey mouse out of Disneyland while your at it which is okay I guess if you loooove goofy.

Being “sure to upset the purists” is a preemptive against someone claiming, like me, that it’s just silly.

Like it or not this is the future of rotary, they are the perfect generator engine, pistons can not compete in this space. The only rotary in production from Mazda right now is for Toyota self-driving electric cars.

^Well aware of what the rotary is now being used for. But what does that have to do with the “future” of our cars, and someone with more money than sense trying to turn an FD into a Tesla? Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should...or that it’s anything but silly...IMO.

It was not an FD, it was a trashed out shell. I expect more of this than LS swaps, and soon expect not to be able to compete on a track in any way against them. If you think someone capable of this is lacking sense we will have to agree to disagree.

Also well aware of the development of electric. It’s impressive to be sure. But it’s like Chinese food...awesome if you like it, as you seem to be enamored with electric. But no matter how much you like it, Chinese is silly...IMO, when served at a BBQ joint.
As for capabilities...so what? I’m sure someone is capable of putting an F1 engine in a Honda Fit, but it’s still silly..IMO. Yep...we’ll have to disagree.

FFS my man calm yourself, never said you were not "aware", matter of fact wasn't thinking of you in the slightest in my original post, and never said it was a good idea, said get used to seeing it. If a car is going to be swapped or trashed anyway, and cost/performance is not out of line, what is the difference...

One of the photos shows they had to chop the rear diff / gas tank / trunk area quite a bit to fit the Tesla motor, that's too bad. I imagine it would be fun to have a lightweight electric car that looks and handles like an FD, but I don't think battery technology is there yet. Somewhere in the instagram comments the guy said he estimates the car gained 300 pounds, and range is about 80-100 miles. He also said he's a student, and didn't really mention if he's got previous EV experience so this might not be the best example of how it could be done.

If you have driven a newer Tesla with the 90 or larger package I don’t know how you wouldn’t think this is awesome. As electric advances you will be able to run smaller battery packs allowing you to mount batteries in the now vacant drivetrain tunnel. I personally think it is really cool and makes more sense than V8 swapping in an engine that already is offered in an as equal or more capable chassis.

It's all fun and games until you drive 100 miles and have to sit around charging for 4 hours.
Any running RX7 can beat every tesla model in an endurance race.
In no way is this setup improving a FD, at least a V8 improves reliability.
100% done for the click bait and social media rep.

That being said, it is a neat drivetrain swap.
