Question '93 FD Antenna Mast

Ray Crowe says NLA. Any ideas for a compatible replacement?

I have some memory of it being the same mast as one used by the Miata….would there be a different part number to try?

I had seen this, along with several other threads, in a search, but I wondered if there was any more recent info.

Possible repair experiment I may try

I have 2 retracting antennas from other applications, one of which is somewhat disassembled. The Nylon "rack/belt" dimensions and tooth spacing on the disassembled one look identical to the FD rack, but it and its mast are somewhat longer.

If I don't find a mast replacement, I may disassemble that spare mast and see how the rack attaches to it. If I can see that I might be able to use that rack on the FD antenna, I'll then take the FD mast apart and see if I can use the good rack to make the FD one work as designed.

I'm going to get the MX-5 antenna as well. My antenna goes up, but it won't go down (and the radio doesn't work any more).

Thanks, again

I received the antenna mast today and installed it. It fit perfectly.

There was one point that I must have missed about feeding the toothed belt into the antenna - the antenna has to be actively running in the retract mode before you start to feed it in. And, as I noticed when looking at the toothed belt closely, the retraction is apparently done by a rotating internal screw thread which explains why the belt would only go in about 4-6" without the antenna actively in retract mode.

It’s not a bad job. As I recall the most irritating thing was locating that little hole to reinsert that drain tube.

I had to shine a small flashlight in there to locate the hole. Once I did locate it on the vertical panel, it wasn't too bad getting the hose into it.
