I tried to join FDRX7 quite a while ago. Seems one needs several sponsors. I only know one Australian.

I have the brochure for the 2001 RZ. It has a four page fold out. One of the panels clearly shows the Red Recaros. The equipment list seems to pretty much match the Spirit R. With only 175 of those RZ made, it would be a rare catch to pick one up.
In my earlier posts, I stuffed up. The 2001 RZ did indeed have Red Recaros and red only. I was getting confused with all the RZ specials. The earlier RZ specials had black, the 2001 had red, which was then followed in the Spirit R Type A.
FYI, although the initial press releases and Mazda brochure said they would make 175 RZs in 2001, they ended up making another 150, so there were 325 in total, as confirmed on the GTR Registry page.
This is the Autoart "Tuned Version" of the FD. Is it representative of the SP? I note they have gone with Red Recaros in the model (with possibly black inserts). The series of Autoart FD's are getting bid up to over US$400. or even as high as $1000. But, for some reason, the Tuned Version can be had for , maybe, US$250. It is the nicer version in my opinion. I just wonder if collectors (like me) do not recognize the model?

Final bid came in at 7421.98usd...... goodness. Scratched kevlar, duct tape on the seat, messed up seat belt holder, literal duct tape on the fabric................ 7500 in United states currency. I'm in shock. So does this mean that rz seats with the tilt rails are now legal to sell for that price range? What would a set of those seats in good condition be valued at proportionally? 10k?
I'm starting to question who these people are and how they asses the price for these things? Of course you're free to sell whatever you want for however much you want but where is the line of realistic? Do you make it and wait for the world to catch up?
This is the new market, you have taken over my role of the crusty out of touch old man now... lol Seen ganador mirrors go for about $6200usd over here this year. (they were bnib carbon with turn signal) This stuff is not cheaper in Japan anymore, for 5 years now I have rarely bothered to sell high-end items like this overseas because I am getting more money and less hassle selling here in Japan. Sold a few things intl but that was mostly for the nostalgic feels rather than math. Don't look for it to go down, and don't look for more FD's to be imported to the US as our JDM cars are now more expensive than what I see in the LHD market.
One thing I will note the international community is not as picky on looks as the Japanese customer so flaws like the ones on this seat set would have affected the price more than it did in Australia.
If you have a Spirit R that auctions over 100k now clean and stock, and you need seats to put it back stock, is 10k out the question?

Not SP-inspired.
This is a series 6/7 (version 1-4) body RX-7 with series 8 (Version 5/6) factory style rear wing, gold BBS wheels and Recaros.
Main exterior details of the SP are a high squarish rear spoiler, silver BBS wheels, carbon fibre nose cone with larger intake and splitters and twin-vent carbon fibre bonnet, see: Mazda RX-7 SP (1995) - AusRotary

It seems AUTOart be using the car format for the Intitial D run for making the Tuner Version. Just changing the color and wheels. Sorry for the very small pic.
If Red Recaros were featured in the Yellow FD in Initial D, that would likely contribute to the seats popularity.

For comparison, the cheapest set i found for sale in all of 2020.
This is what 2600USD (4300USD including shipping and VAT) gets you:
- No rails (+1000USD from Garage Alpha)
- Trashed seat belt clips (+150USD for the parts stil made)
- Trashed passenger seat (they are placed opposite in the picture) (+2000 for a proper reupholstery job, original Recaro fabric is 120USD/yard)
- Old style kevlar/carbon pattern
- Yellowed/browned resin from 1993
Thats 5600 USD for getting this set somewhat proper, but the back is still yellowed and not to nice.
Correct. When they set out to make the Initial D version, they already had the "tuner" version of the FD to build off of.
Personally I never liked the tuner version. Which is probably why they're affordable compared to some of the other sought after vehicles. Especially the Initial D and Spirit R versions.
I was really fortunate to find an Initial D version locally before I started hunting internationally. These guys are going for a pretty penny nowadays...
I was hoping to find a Spirit R in white as well to complete my collection. In hindsight I should've bought them directly from Autoart at the time they were for sale. Sadly I didn't have the funds back then. Luckily for me things turned around and I was able to go hunting for these rare items now. You have no idea how hard it is to find the white! At a reasonable price. Now they're going for an astronomical sum.. what's gotten into people?! lol
Granted, it's not as bad as the RZ seats.. but come on now.. we're talking about diecast models! lol
A few things that are bringing these seats to the value they are today.
Limited edition run OEM product.
Carbon kevlar construction.
Restricted cabin space in FD limit ability to fit more popular aftermarket seats.
Look bad ***.
I had 3 sets of these seats in my possession a couple years back at one time. Should have kept them a little longer lol...If you think the RZ seat prices are crazy, look at NSX type R seats.

I always wanted to replace my old RZ black fabric with the ESH red covers. Does anyone know if ESH is still around, and if they're still producing these covers?

I do get a lot of people commenting on how nice and comfy mine are with the ESH covers. They do kind of make the car.

Yeah they closed up late 2017, think I may have had their last set of Recaro covers! I've kept my original red SR covers safe in case I ever decide to swap back but I cant see that ever happening now. The ESH covers are far better quality and look great in person. Hard to capture in pictures but the extra stitching makes it look far more premium that OEM..
