And the work begins, new engine, lights wheels (pics)
My moms pretty cool about engine parts in the house. I put the rotor housings in my bedroom which she had a fit about, but she shut up when i showed her the 2 month old receipt for them (proving that they didnt even know what oil and dirt was, as theyd never been out of their box before)
It is good fun Rickeo - i'd say building the engine itself has to have been the most interesting and rewarding part of this whole experience. I had a spaz fit about one of the interal combustion coolant rings that WOULD NOT stay in its groove, but the rest went ok and the whole engine build is actually a helluva lot easier than youd think.
Im finally getting to the stage where im seeing new versus old, which is a sign im over the half way mark - which is nice:

I've loved those wheels since i saw them on that red car. My FD is red too, and ever since them (pretty much since i bought the car) ive been searching for a way to get them for less than $3900 (im in UK, we get charged a shitload for anything)
I couldnt find a way, so i just ended up paying!

Good to see a girlfriend helping out. And, yeah man gramlights. good wheel. good price. Liking it. Keep up the good work.
man that red picture makes me want gramlights.

Excellent work!! Bro, I'm getting a stiffy! I did'nt build my motor myself 'cause I had to get machine work done but I will post pics of my rebuild. I have it a little worse than you, I have my interior apart and I'm also re-doing the suspension. Hey, I had my engine sitting in my living room for a year and the trans in the closet! Damn apartment complex said they had a garage available when I was getting ready to move in, when I did, no garage!
are you sure dublup? the guy from the injector place said that looked about right for 550's and 850's - whats the coversion? if they are larger, i may have a tweaked ECU i might need to get it checked - the car came with a huge 4 inch 1 piece non silenced non catted exhaust on it that i removed before i had a boost gauge - maybe the car has been tuned that i am unaware of and ive just restricted it terribly with the standard cat - when i had it hooked up for emissions it was overfueling horribly, this could possibly be why!
But on the other hand, it might just have been because my spray patterns were bad and the fuel wasnt atmoizing properly.

Can you tell us what you backgroud is in doing engine rebuilds? I was thinking of doing this also but didn't want to get in way over my head. I worked in a shop for a while and worked on jets for a few years in the military but I don't know how complex a rebuild on my own would be. Either way this is a great post and it looks like you are making a lot of progress!
thanks

i once replaced the rings, big end bearings, valves, tappets, cam, springs, collets etc on an inline 4 piston engine. I work as a network engineer - im self taught. I self built a car that came as a 1.4 litre into a 2.0 litre 16v car with nitrous running 13s on the quarter, front wheel drive. then i bought the RX7, did some bushings on it, did a rats nest vac line replacement and now im doing a rebuild.
I can honestly say, anyone with a mildy mechanical background (professional or hobby) and some type of rotary rebuild video (i used bruce turrentines from rotary aviation) and a workshop manual can do this job.
i was HIGHLY surprised at how easy the rebuild was. Paint this on here, stretch this around that, put those seals in there - put housing on, push that spring in there.
I honestly think if you measure properly, clean meticulously and take your time, youd have to be a total retard to **** this up. just pay attention to everything you do, and be aware that a build takes time. DONT rush!!! And budget for stuff you didnt expect, because ive spent a shitlot so far.

^play around there, it will do the conversion
you are right, pretty much anyone that can turn a wrench and read, and be patient...could do a rebuild. I'm boost 18psi on a self rebuild, DIY single turbo, self built custom wire harness and self tuned Haltech <--fastest car I've ever owned.
