Stock wheel weight?
I need wheels for drag racing for my 96 240SX Turbo. I am considering buying some 300ZX wheels but I would imagine rx7 wheels dont weight as much, so I was wondering if anyone can tell me how much the Stock 16x8 wheels weight? A picture is below. Thanks!

The weight of the stock wheels is 15.5 to 16 lbs. depending on the year the wheels were made. The later wheels weigh more.
Mazda engineers had a design goal of 38 1/2 pounds for the weight of a tire and wheel. I've weighed mine with the stock Bridgestone Expedias and that's exactly what they weigh.
People often forget this when they go shopping for aftermarket wheels and tires. If your new combo goes over the design goal
you're increasing the unsprung weight of the car. That can have all sorts of negative impacts on performance, not to mention wearing out your shocks faster. As with the rest of the car,
lighter is better.

yeah lighter is better,
but almost all aftermarket wheels, if larger in size,
add to the overall weight, metal weighs more than rubber
or air(duh, hehe).
Which is why people buy 18's and 19's for the look, not performance,
17's are ok though I think, because usually they come
in a wider width, so you get better traction,
both for launching and cornering, and the larger
diameter does give more rigidity which is good.
and for straight liners, 17x10's more than make up
for the added weight, with a sticky launch!
i think 17x7.5front and 17x9(or 10) rear would make a
really nice performance and look combo

The latest RX-7's come with 17inchers. I don't know there exact width but tire sizes are 235/45 front with the rears being 255/40 I think?
Those are pretty big tires for a small sports car like the Rex.
I'm thinking of buying the 99 wheels. I want to find out how much they weigh first. Anybody?

...and don't forget, some of the later FD models probably had their suspensions recalibrated to compensate for different wheels. I know the RZ had Bilstein shocks. Lotus also retunes the Esprit suspension anytime there's a wheel change.
The differences felt with added unsprung weight are probably minor, but on the other hand Mazda and other manufacturers go to great legnths to reduce it, so it must mean something.

I believe some of the very first 3rd Gen wheels that came out only weighted 13lbs but had problems with cracking. There are probably a few of those floating around but if its not cracked by now you probably have nothing to worry about. Look very close for cracks
