Question smell of gearbox oil after fast driving-any ideas?

Every time i take the car for a fast blast and then stop,i get a real strong smell of hot or burning transmission oil.there are no visible leaks or smoke ,just this overpowering stink.Anyone got any ideas?

RotaryBrit,
Take a look at the side of the differential adjacent to the exhaust system. My bet is the seal is allowing the gear oil to sling out while the axle is turning. Mine is doing the same thing, may have been caused by aftermarket exhaust that does not have a heat shield cooking the seal? The replacement, as outlined in the service manual, looks fairly easy.

Hey Cliff, thanks for your input on oil leak.Sure enough when i put it up on the ramps it is the drive shaft oil seal, adjacent to the muffler.Took it in to my local Mazda dealer who quoted meŁ40-00 to change seal and replace diff oil(thats about$60-00).Not worth getting your hands dirty for that amount of cash.I have a HKS muffler so perhaps i need to think about some sort of heat shield to stop it happening again.
Thanks again for your help
Rotary Brit.
