Simple problem...Please help...!!

I recently took my car down to Pettit for servicing and for a few aftermarket goodies.. One minor problem that Cameron took care of was a loose bolt that secures the turbos to the engine. Well it is loose again and I want to know the easist way to get there. It makes a nasty vibrating sound at full throttle. I think it just needs to be retightened or maybe it needs a new bolt or is stripped?! Please help guys!

There are 6 small bolts that hold each turbo cartridge to the turbo housing. Usually they come loose on the #1 turbo. Unfortunately the ones that usually loosen up can not be reached unless the turbos are removed. This looseness if enough, will allow an exhaust leak which has the typical exhaust spitting sound. There isn't a gasket there. I had this happen 2 times when my car was under warranty and until I started doing my own work. It never made a vibrating sound.

You could pull the lower heat shields and re-torque the 8 fasteners there. They attach the turbo housing to the exhaust
manifold with two gaskets inbetween. These could make the vibrating sound. If bad, again the turbos need pulling.

You did not mention what year your car is. Worse; if you engine has the paper lower intake manifold gasket, it might be blown.

Anytime your turbos are pulled, if you have an older RX7 with the papert intake manifold gasket; get it replaced at the same time with the newer metal one.

I have a 93 R1, how much does it cost to change all the gaskets to the newer metal ones and where can I get a set of them at?

you can order them from mazdatrix, or your local mazda dealer you just need gasket part numbers

i've replaced all the paper ones myself, and plan to get a whole new gasket kit when i retire from meddling with the OEM parts

they all cost $200-300 for the gaskets i will be replacing, sorry dude i don't have the figures on me at the moment

That's ok, I don't do anything at work anyway , so I'll use my spare time to look up part numbers and costs and post them from Mazdatrix.

Thanks for the info!! I don't think it is that big of a problem. When the car was down at Pettit, Cameron said that it was only a bolt that was loose in which he got half a turn on and it was fixed. It is definatly not an exhaust leak. I was trying to get some info on reaching that area. I was thinking either above by removing intake or from underneath. The car is a '93. Any further suggestions? Thanks again.......G.....
