Rewrapping the main engine harness?
Rewrapping the main engine harness?
Hi All:
My engine harness (under the UIM) is really cooked. Most of the insulation around the wiring for each solenoid crumbled apart.
What are you guys using to rewrap the wiring? I don't wanna leave it unprotected because the wiring is already brittle. I was thinking of using new pieces of wire loom + electrical tape on each connector. However, I think using silicon tubing would be even better due to its high heat resistance.

Silicone tubing? I would say use some good ol' wire loom and some electrical tape like you said. It should hold up just find. For extra measure you can use a heat sleeve. Link
You can find it there.

Do not use:
Romex (Mazda used this, it maxes out at 85C).
Electrical tape (85C as well).
Wiring loom (200F max).

Thanks, guys. I found this at mcmaster.com:

Silicone/Glass Cloth Masking Tape
With a fiberglass/silicone rubber film and silicone adhesive, this tape has high abrasion resistance with a wide temperature range. Great for masking during grit blasting and plasma flame spraying. Total tape thickness is .011" (film is .007" and adhesive is .004"). Color is white. Temperature range is -100° to +500° F. Tape is supplied on a cardboard spool with a 3" ID and comes with a liner.

Item # 7591A61 (1/2" wide)
Item # 7591A63 (1" wide)
Item # 7591A65 (2" wide)
I think I'll try some of the 1/2" wide stuff.

Well...bummer. The McMaster silicon tape is far from sticky. I'm not even sure how they can call it tape!
I ordered some of their Nylon wiring loom that is rated up to 300 deg F. That'll have to do.
