If you can get your car to a dyno do it.We have a few people in the club RPNW.ORG that have had probs. like overly rich maps. On a dyno pull it showed it was running 9.5/1 fuel ratio we were all suprised it ran at all. Anyway dont count that out just on word of mouth meanwhile stay out of it untill you find out whats realy going on sounds like Detination, or injector flutter this happens when max duty cycle has been reached or surpassed.

Yeah, sounds to me like your probably running a little too rich. Those unburnt gasses are igniting in the exhaust causing the popping sound. Go to a dyno or get an A/F meter.

I'm having that problem right now, though mine starts at a lot lower rpm, ie right after the sec. turbo comes online. I thought I cured it twice before, only for it to come back the next day. I was reluctant to think it could have been the plugs, as they had less than 5k miles on them. Well, I've put in a brend new set, & it's much better now, though I'm still watching as I've been fooled twice before.

Did you try resetting the ECU? Maybe the previous owner did some work and knocked off a sensor and didn't reset the ECU.

How does your intake look? Is it clogged? Check all the connections from your intake as well....

I agree, the car is probably running very rich......I had similar problem when I out on my FMIC I forgot to tighten down a clamp coming from the intake....my car sounded like it had a 454 in it and when I even just let off the gas it would backfire like crazy....
