Pettit ECU -> boost controller necessary?

Since the "regular" Pettit ECU boosts to 14psi, which I understand to be dangerous with a stock fuel system, is a boost controller like a Profec B necessary?

If so, aren't you just better off getting a Power FC since it can control boost?

I *really* want that Pettit ECU but at the same time I *really* don't want to blow my motor. I wish Pettit could program the chips to limit boost at 12psi

Boost seems to be a very intricate part of an FD. It seems that everyone has a different result from mods that are done.

When I put in a CB, my boost was just fine at 10-8-10. I put in the DP and spiked to 15. I immediatedly removed the pills and put in 2 valves and seemed to have it under control. I put the intake in and had to adjust it lower again.

I then installed the Pettit ECU a month ago and played with the valves until I drove myself nuts. Jeff at Pettit and Pauly at Aim both suggested that I put the stock pills back in.

Now I am running an 11-10-12 with a nice transition between the two turbos with the stock pills.

I would think that when I install the IC next year, that more tweaking will be necessary and I may need to re-install the valves?

It doesn't appear that there is a strick solution for everyone with each mod for each FD.

Theak, tweak, tweak. I guess that is one of the fun things about this car. I have learned so much about the FD from doing these mods and the people on this forum have been a wealth of information.

Don't get confused about the 14.7 psi. It is not what the Pettit chip produces, it is where the fuel cut kicks in. Normally the stock system kicks fuel cut in around 11-12 psi depending on rpm. I run the Pettit and played with the Pills to get the boost I wanted, which is around 9/11 with no drop between. With this said I do plan on getting a Profec B but I could live w/o it. I just think it would be nice to have. Also I'll add that I would have bought the PFC if it were around when I needed a computer but no matter, my Pettit works great.

If anyone is interested... I am going to be selling my Profec B soon if anyone wants it.

It works perfectly... except it only lets me get to 20 psi. I am replacing it with an HKS EVC... that way I can get to 26+. But for an RX-7 that lives under 20 psi it would be perfect.

Let me know.. I'm in NC.
