Oil smoke under hood in turbo area...

I have an almost-stock (downpipe only) '94 Touring with 55k miles. Usually no problem, but twice it's smoked heavily from under the hood near the turbos after spirited (but not abusive) driving. I can't see any oil leaks. I've pushed it at least as hard several other times with no problems. Any ideas?

it is probably an oil return line on the turbo they get brittle and crack. under boost it spray some oil and you get smoke. my car is currently doing this till have everything taken apart and repaired. you might want to try and order that trace dye that you put in the oil to find the exact spot where it is leaking. good luck

Yeah, mine did that too. I almost shitted myself when I saw smoke coming out of my hood! I think the hoses that go to the turbo are probably loose or cracked. I readjusted as many hoses that I can see near the smoke and it never smoked again, knock on wood. I think in my case, the clamps probably came too close to the edge of the hose to hold a good seal. Also mine smoked a little at a time and it didn't smoke for a 1/2 hr when I was looking for the smoke.

If you do plan on taking the hoses off to look for crack and fitment problems, you'll need some good wrench pliers that can hold the clamps in open position so you can move it around or get it onto the hose. Remember to let the car cool so you don't burn yourself.
