Question New Member-Need advices

Hello All:
Let me introduce myself. My name is Nick, a young AUTO 94' Rx-7(touring) owner from Chicago. I'm new to the board, just registered, this is my first post. I did a couple of searches on the board about auto rx-7 and their capabilities, and I didn't receive much infos. I have some simple questions and would like to know your inputs.

I got the 7 for almost 2 years now, and my goal is mid-low 12sec ET, is that possible? I haven't dyno/track the 7 yet, but so far I got a couple of mods in it(downpipe, exhaust, pulleys, intake, guages). I heard many horror stories about the engine popping like popcorns when you're getting high hp. That's why I stopped there. I talked to a lot of company, and most of their products are designed for the manual 7 only, and they either have no clue what the effects will be on an auto or advise me to stop modding. So just let me know weather my goal is possible (how hard/easy)? Or I should trade it in for a 5-speeds instead.

ps-any auto owners here with a drag set-up?
Your times are greatly appreciated.
Nick

My brother is shipping his FD auto to KDR today. I think Dave knows how to get it in the 12s. I think it is also expensive. Needs auto upgrade to handle extra power and that is about $3k alone.

Auto for drag

It's my understanding that the Auto trans will handle upto 360 RWHP. I would thik this would be enough to put you in the high 12's if your traction is adiquit. The mods you have without the ECU would not be close to this amount of power as of yet. You ought to take it to the track and find out what it's running whith your current setup. Then you will know weather you need to work with the Trans.

I ran a software simmulation with auto ratios and 7k redline and 380rwhp and my stick with my ratios and 400rwhp and 7.5k redline. I was surprised auto was 126mph and 11.66 and stick was 126 mph and 11.50. Jeez that's only .16 and same mph. WOW. So for about $10k in upgrades my brother can keep up with me with his auto.

In my simmulation the advantages of autos are they are consistant. Easier to get off the line without wheelspin, sticks are really tricky. autos shift faster and don't miss a shift. Back in the 60s the hemi autos beat the 4-speeds for these very same reasons I mentioned. Now I have to talk my brother into the expensive mods. The auto tranny has to be upgraded to handle the extra power. That's about $3k alone.
