I've seen some posts in the past about coolant leaking from the AST or the coolant resevior. From where my puddle is, I'm guessing that its my resevior. Anybody had experience on where the leaks normally take place? The filler neck or in a tube connection? That resevior looks like its in there deep. Any good posts or "how to" to get it out?

The location from which it leaks is a small drain hole in the top of the resevior. It was put there to allow excess coolant to get out.
As far as why the resevior is full, could be anything from filling it to much to a bad cap, to a leaky hose, to anything as bad as the seals in the engine have given up and now is pushing exaust into the coolant, that if from what I heard usually happens as a result of the motor overheating and bioling in the engine. To remove the coolant you can either siphon the coolant out or remove the resevior by way of the passenger side wheelwell, remove three 10mm and drain untill dipstick reads full. If after that it still fills replace both the filler cap on the thermostat housing and the radiator cap on the AST. That is what fixed it for me.

 

I don't think I'm overfilling. My resevoir stick reads low and my low coolant light and warning tone come on. When I check the radiator cap, there is sufficient fluid. However, the resevior is low. I think I'm just plain leaking out.

 

Your low coolant warning sounds even when it appears full checking the filler neck?
You defininately see a coolant puddle and not water from the a/c?

 

To clarify, I'm full at the radiator cap, I'm low at the resevior. The puddle is green, so I'm pretty sure its coolant.

 

I started leaking coolant recently... turns out my radiator was bad. The way that they were able to tell was taking off the mazda air scoop deal (the front black piece under the hood) and the fuse box thing (sorry - no technical terms here) just under that on the passenger's side - we were able to see the radiator from there and saw that it was leaking at the seams all the way around.

I ordered a Fluidyne and it got here super fast. will be putting it in tomorrow morning.

 

Well if you are getting ANY coolant to your overflow I'd be surprised if it is the hose to the tank. You could fill your overlow up with water and see if it drips out.

I have a hunch that it is a seal in your radiator.

 

...but that would not make sense if your level never drops in your filler neck. Hmmm...

 

check to see if it is comeing from your water pump! i lost my engine to that problem.

 

The water pump is more towrd the center or right center isn't it?
