It was only a matter of time before this showed up again. last I heard it could be done for about 3-4k per door!!! Amemiya of Japan will do it...in Japan.

Quwhees of Miami, FL quoted me a price of 3200 per door for just the set up. Said it would require large amounts of welding and refabrication. NO GUARANTEES on the longevity of the doors either.

This was at NOPI 2000.

Its sweet as hell but, who the hell can afford it...actually I guess a bunch of peeps on the forum could..just not my poor ***.

I thought that doing that adds a lot of weight to the car too, so you'll have a heavier FD on your hands. Just for your information.

I have a feeling that after a week of having these doors I would get really sick of them. They just don't seem that practical on a FD.

i think they would be good on a rx-7 since you must open the door pretty wide in order to get out. they could save your other cars nicks and dents too if you have a tight garage. i hear they are about 25 grand done professionally in japan but im not sure.

I have to admit, I've been feeling these doors for a while but the thought of spending that kind of money on such a mod has been more than a brick wall for me too!
Until my brother reminded me that there are companies in the US the build Kit cars. Some of these companies even build lambo replicas. i think i'm gonna contact one and see how much a mod like that would be if I had them do it on my fd. If it isn't outrageous as far as price, I'll let you guy's know! any of you are also welcome to try the same thing. there are tons of companies that do kits!!!

The thing about scissor type door conversions is that they require a lot of frame to support the weight of the door..hinges are easy, its the supporting structure you have to worry about.

If the supporting structure isn't welded/constructed properly, the door, over time, will sag down when closed. Problem with the FD is that there isn't much there to support the door. The firewall is relatively thin and weak and there is little room underneath the dash.

I'd take the added weight to get the doors like that. Impractical? Since when has anything on the FD been practical

My brother knows of a company that does a professional grade scissor wing conversion for any car for like 10K. I'll see if I can get that info for him and let you all know who the company was. This conversion had a lifetime warrenty also so if they did start to sag they'd fix them.
