I smell....FUEL!

Do I have a split or a crack in my fuel line or what? I'm not sure if I want to take my lady to Mazduh or not about this. Nothin' I can fix myself though, I know that much.

If it is just a fuel line, then even Mazduh should be able to fix it. You might be better off with a talented import shop.

well...I too have had that problem on numerous occasions.

for me...it is and was leaky injectors/housing...see if you can smell where it is coming from...

you can also get that dye for the fuel...when you put a black light to it you will see where the leak is coming from.

Do not take it to the dealer. TRUST ME. I got farked one too many times dealing with idiots. they will not know what to do most likely...it may even come back worse than when you took it in...

take it to a place in your area who can judge what it may be.

also...there is a part of the lightning in a world of thunder website that will have a checklist for feul leaks...go through it yourself.

best of luck

my car still has a minor fuel smell...it goes back in soon. same spot....two sets of injectors and three housings later...cant figure it out at all...but that labor was warranteed thank god.

If it is only under boost then it could be the intake seal.

If you smell it mor under heavy acceleration, try to determine where the strongest smell is coming from. Smell under the intake plennum from the front. If the smell is strongest here, it may be your pulsation dampener. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR. If you do you have the chance of an engine fire.

If the smell seems to come from another place, check under the intake pipe, there is a small black tubular purge tank that may contain some fuel. Take the lines off both ends and see if there is any fuel inside; if so, dump it out and put it back on.

If not from there, check some of the one way check valves.

If you have 60K + miles on your car, I too would bet its your pulsation dampener. It requires quite a bit of work to get to it.

if you smell it right when you turn the car off, and it comes from around the rear driver (left) tire - then it can be the charcoal canister.

Actually I never smell fuel anywhere under the hood or outside of the car, but just when I'm driving around with the windows up or down. I smell it pretty much all the time inside the car, driving hard or not, if that helps at all with the diagnosis. Well, I'm going down to Ocala, FL to get my engine rebuilt by the end of this month (hopefully) and I guess I'll have Carlos look into the fuel smell while he's working on my engine.

I don't think it's the dampener because I've smelled a tiny bit of fuel while driving ever since I bought the car 5 months ago. Now, I've just noticed the smell a lot more and it seems a little stronger. This stronger smell started about 3 or 4 weeks ago and I haven't had an engine fire or any related problems.

Find a mechanic local. Don't risk the fire. If you smell fuel, you have a leak.
I never smell fuel on my FD. It can't be normal.
I've had many small things bite me on the *** with the FD.

Good luck!

But the only place I can go is Mazduh! I've already figured that out in trying to finding a place that knows something about my car. The only other place is 3 and a half hours away in Ocala!
