help with thermostat info
hey, i was wondering what the thermostat replacement was all about. some have said the stock thermostat full opens at 180 others say 200. What is the real deal? A lot of people have said to replace the stock thermostat with a 180 degree one, but what does that mean? where can you get a 180 degree thermostat? rx-7.com sell thermostats, but they don't specify which type it is. could you get a thermostat from the dealer? (shipping to hawaii is a bitch) how much? I've even heard people say "use miata thermostats" is that right? what happens if you just take out the thermostat completly? since i live in hawaii, i don't really have a problem with frost or slow warm up.
please help, i'm totally lost... also any info on replacing it would help. Thanks.

ok i checked the workshop manual. it says the thermostat fully opens at 203 °F, and i kinda understand how to replace it. my question now is where can you get another one which opens at a lower temp. Also, i'm still curious to what happens if you take it out completly.

You do not want to take it out. First the car will always think it is in "warm-up" mode. So the car will run very rich, idle high. If you ever need your heater, it will not work.
Just get a 180C thermostat, not sure which one you need.
