I have the blitz exhaust and I love it. It has a nice deep rumble sound, and the entire unit, pipes and all, is stainless steel.

I'm curious about the 5 Zigen too actually, seems like almost no one out there has one on an FD...

I know Blitz is what I'm going to get.

the fact that it has the silencer is a big plus for me..but Even without that feature, I'd still go with it. Just from what I've heard.

2 questions:

1. Does anyone NOT like their exhaust? If so, why - other than too loud?

2. Doesn't the need for a silencer mean that when the silencer is in, you've decreased the flow to a 1.5" or so opening, therefore negating the 3" pipe up to that point? I read somewhere that a particular muffler with a silencer made LESS power than stock when the silencer was in place. I don't remeber what muffler it was, but it's something to think about.

well yes..

but I don't need anything else that will get me harrassed by the police in my small town. I already get pulled over enough for all the stupid things they can find (tint, license plate, etc). I doubt it would make less power than stock. though I can see how it would be possible.

reasons people don't like thier exhaust: hangs too low (scrapes), too loud, too tinny (not deep enough), and that's about all the reasons I think I've heard.

I like my Apex single for the sound (WITH the silencer in place) and build quality- it's first rate, but I wish I bought a double tip since I think they just plain look better than a fart cannon! I think the big singles somehow cheez up the looks of the FD. Oh, BTW, that sonofabitch gets REALLY hot - already melted part of my car cover to it and spent an hour scraping off molten, hardened plastic with my fingernails in order to avoid scratching it! I sewed in a Nomex panel in place of the Evolution fabric where it touches the pipe and don't need to worry about burning the fabric when putting it on after a run.

That's an awesome idea! I have a fairly scorched cover as well. Where did you get the Nomex panel? and what is Nomex? is it a fabric? is it flexible?

And as far as silencers go.... not trying to pick a fight (I'm just curious) - why don't you get something that isn't as loud and doesn't need a silencer? Like a Racing Beat or M2? Do the others end up making more HP when the silencer is out? If so, is the HP gain with it out worth the HP loss with it in, which sounds like would be th normal case?

curious

Nomex is an aramid fiber that has a very high melting point - it's what they use for driver's flame resistant suits. If you want to pm me I'll send you a piece (remind me at the end of September since that's when I'll be home again) I think I've got some yellow and blue left over. It's real flexible and you can just cut out the burned area and sew a square piece in place in place. I don't mine giving you a small piece for free, but please guys, this stuff is $45.00 A YARD!

I wish I bought the M2 double tip to begin with, but I did get mine new for $400.00 cash. I think there is a very modest gain in hp with the silencer out, I'm talking maybe 5 hp or so, just guessing -but I really don't want to **** off my neighbors with my car. I do it often enough with my bike! Did you ever notice how everything that's loud is slow? (ie: Harleys, ricer Hondas, etc.):

racing beat exhaust looks kinda restrictive, is it? why do people buy rb exhaust instead of say n1 or nur spec?

I have the racing beat, and honestly, the reason I have it is because it was on the car when I bought it. However, that being said, I would have purchased it myself had it not been there when I got the car. The only muffler I'd rather have is the M2. The reason I like the RB is that it's 3" all the way through, it gives a noticeable power increase and doesn't sound like a fart cannon.

I haven't done any testing or researching on what mufflers give what HP gains, but I can imagine that the difference isn't more than a few HP. The difference in decibel output, however, can be incredible.

My personal opinion (and not saying that it's better than anyone else's - we all have our reasons for owning what we own) is to get something that is 3" through, gives good flow to increase power, and isn't so loud that you'll get pulled over or just be generally obnoxious when driving down the road.
