Here are Pettit's modified steering knuckles. BTW, a true drop spindle moves the location of the spindle up to lower the front of the car without changing the suspension. Despite the name of the image, these are not drop spindles.

Jim-
I would have to dig through and find them. But you can find various references in these links:

You guys are way out of my league with this discussion! My understanding is that Pettit uses modified spindle to correct any bump steer problems and that the car's geometry after the 20B conversion is the same as stock.
Bryan, didn't you do an LS1 conversion in your car?
PheonixDownVII, didn't mean to insult you - was just having fun with the music crowd paying obscene (hence stupid) prices for a whole lot of "bling bling" and not much horsepower.

Red-Rx7,
pictures would be great.
David,
Yes. I swapped to a light weight aluminum block LS1 last year. I've recently taken the car back apart to put a turbo on it. Torque is fun (especially on the nitrous), but I miss my turbo.

Bryan,
Look forward to hooking up with you once the car gets back. We'll have to have a battle of the LS1 versus the 3 rotor!
Yes, I did ride in Cam's car - no bump steer problems and all torque and acceleration! Can't remember who asked me to check on the bump steer issue when I first started this conversion, but I did have a pretty detailed discussion with Pettit on this.

On a side note, the SP Engineering "Supra-7" never did get the bump steer issues resolved, as far as I know. They had to drop the steering rack so far to clear the 2JZ-GTE (and it still required a "custom" hood) that there was no way to get the steering geometry back. The car made huge RWHP numbers, from what I heard, but wasn't much use for anything but car shows because it couldn't drive in a straight line.

Molded Rear Fender flares - Help Needed!
Hello,
I need your input on the rear fenders I'm putting on the car. As you might recall, I'm going with 12.5 inch width rear wheels so I need to put on fender flares to accomodate the wheels. My problem is the only fender flares I can find are fiberglass and I'm concerned about molding them to the car. Won't I have difficulty in the future with the fiberglass pulling away from the metal?
Might be a stupid question but I'd like to build the car for the long-term. Does anyone know of metal fender flares available for the FD that could be welded to the car? Or should I have Pettit bolt on the Pettit fender flares and bring the car back to Jacksonville where I could spend some time with a body shop up here arranging for a more permanent solution? Also, I'm not to keen on the fiberglass body panels that have the fender flares incorporated into them. Too much fiberglass for me.
I appreciate your comments on this. All the mechanicals are on the car and Pettit is waiting on an ECU to show up. Pettit usually uses the Links system but apparantely the version 2 does not support the 20B. Bummer.

FYI - Ended up going with Michelin Pilot Sports for the tires. Thanks for your input on this. Also should have had more pictures by now but Pettit had to close and evacuate because of the hurricane.
I like the simple look of the Pettit fender flares that are bolted on and painted to match. I liked them on Cams 20B car. (I have been there many times and seen it in person). I would be afraid of molded fiberglass pulling away in time like you stated.
Yep, this is what I am now thinking. Love though the smooth look of non-bolted, molded flares. I saw a black 20B at Cam's which is where I got the idea. Just found out tthe owner is a welder and he did his own out of metal.

on a serious note though good luck to all you 7 owners in Florida...dont evac be4 you get your 7 somewhere safe!! put it underground or sumthin...if u cant just do what i do with my patio furniture and throw it in the pool...
Wish I could have taken the car. Unfortunately it's riding out the storm in West Palm at Cam's shop. Let's hope my biggest problem come Monday is deciding which fender flares will be the best for my car!
I'm in Jacksonville so I'm in the clear though. Just a bunch of wind and rain expected tomorrow.

I guess I'm going to find out soon! Cam's about 8 miles or so from the coast, so he's pretty close. I'm encouraged though that his website (pettitracing.com) is still up although he might not do his own hosting.
Most certainly the car is inside. Because the ECU hasn't shown up yet, I don't beleive the car has moved from where they installed the engine and that is inside the shop. I guess that is what insurance is for though!
I bought the car new in '94 so it would be quite the loss...

Warranty?
I'm wondering, for 35K, in the LS1 world, assuming you leave the tune alone and agree to a reasonable HP number then you get a 2 year/24K warranty.
Sounds like a cool project, I always love something that is off the beat and path, but thats a pricey 450hp.

Good question - don't know the answer to it. My 13B Pettit rebuild was warranteed for 1 year (I think 12,000 miles) but I'm not sure of the 20B warranty. I'll check and post the answer.
Form your sig, you're an LS1 person from Hinson. How has that worked out for you? Thought about this but for me, the "heart" of the RX7 is the rotary engine.

You know, I have a brand new unused Link computer from Pettit for a 20B that I never used that I'd like to sell cheap, like half price or less. It's about 4ish years old. The person was never able to finish the payment for the car so I had to keep the computer etc.

Well, I got through to Jeff at Pettit sales. He's in a different location from the shop. He now has power and is able to take calls but he still has not heard from the shop yet and is not sure if they have power yet or if the shop sustained any damage (probably more appropriate to say HOW MUCH damage) from the hurricane.
Keep your fingers crossed - we'll see!

I live in Deerfield Beach - about ~30 or miles or so South of Pettit. Lots of trees blown over here. Not much structural damage. Let's hope the shop didn't sustain any significant damage.
