your opinion/addvice

I am looking at getting some wheels for the base rx7.

I am looking at getting 17x7 with 42 or 40 offset. with a 1.75 inch lip.

doess anyone have rims with these demensions? I would like to see some rims. like it on the 7. also what do you all addvice me to get for the offset? 40 or 42? wanna be able to put some nice wider tires on there but not have it rub.

I am also looking into lowering it 1 or so inches.

thanks for the help to all.

From the FAQ for FC sticky thread at the top of this section:

What size are my wheels?
The stock sizes all have an offset of 40mm or 40 ET and are:
14x6 w/ 114.3x4 bolt pattern (Base, Luxury, 87.5-88 SE)
15x6 w/ 114.3x5 bolt pattern (GXL, Sport, GTU, 91 coupe)
15x6.5 w/ 114.3x5 bolt pattern (convertible)
16x7 w/ 114.3x5 bolt pattern (Turbo, GTUs, Infini IV)

I want to change my wheels to something bigger. What offset should I use???

Please read the FAQ for FC before posting.

Ok from going to the site above, if im reading this right, if i get a 40 offset the wheel will extend 38mm out further then if i went with a 42 offset it would only extend 36mm.

So if i want the wheels to say stick out further, so the lip is more noticable, go with the 40 offset correct.

Will lowering the car an 1" in the back and front cause rubbing when cornering?

Also while im in there chagning out the springs are there any shocks you all suggest that can be bought from say local shops?

thanks again

Ignore the rim diameter for now...
7" wide +40 is STOCK.
So your 17" x 7" +40 is the same dimensions.

Check eBay for Tokico HP non-adjustables.
$250 for a set of 4 is unbeatable for the performance.
If you want to step up to adjustables, the KYB AGX's are a good buy for under $500.
Lots of vendors sell the KYB AGX's for your FC for under $500.

As RETed said, you are looking at the same setup as stock (7 in width and 40 mm offset) other than the diameter, so you will be just fine with fitment. You could easily run a 215/45-17 tire which would be essentially the same overall diameter as the stock tire. See also this calculator:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I'm running a light weight 16x7 wheel (40 mm offset) with a 215/50-16 tire (slightly shorter than stock). If you go 17 in diameter, try to get a lighter weight wheel. Your car will be faster and handle better than with a heavy wheel. I ordered my wheels and tires from (great service):
http://www.tirerack.com

I have Tokico Illuminas with the Racing Beat springs, and it is a great combination. If your car is a pure street car, then you probably want to go with a non-adjustable shock. I've had no rubbing issues caused by the springs. The springs are supposed to lower the car about an inch. My suspension was worn out, so my car was actually only lowered 1/4 inch.

gotcha, thanks a lot.

Yea i was hoping for the wheels to fill up the huge space we have but I guess Ill stick with 40 offset. eithe way will look better than stock wheels. especially with black wheel and nice 1.75 inch polished lip.

then lower it and there we have it. nice look without body kit.
