you need to check out these new apex seals!

They call them tip seals. check out the "swing tip" seals
That might be better than just a spring to force the seal against the housing face.
then check out the "direct tip seal" where oil is already at the seal with no metering oil pump. I will bet that would make these last for ever. They are right, this is where most damage occours.

Swing seals are designed only for very high boost short term life engines for limited very high performace applications (like drag cars/bikes or other short distance racing applications).

They would be useless for street applications.

It also seems as alot of engine builders are now starting to stay away from Hurleys. I know Rob at Pineapple does'nt like em. Same with Dave@KD. Stock apex seals, carbons (n/a motors), and ceramics are the way to go. CJ

that's the way it was 5 yrs ago. And now everyones back to it. it's like a band wagon almost.

Care to elaborate? I want to know the specifics on why they avoid Hurley seals.

From what I've heard about dave is they seem to break in the same place. However, this is just what I've read. I've actually never talked to Dave about it.

Rob does'nt like them because they don't seem to hold up for long periods at high boost pressure. (25-30psi) Rob is still "playing" with a couple sets. Seeing if he can increase their life span. Rob does like the fact though, when they do go...they don't take out everything on their way out. CJ

I am using Atkins currently, I know some people are using them well over 30 psi. They won't break if you do not lean out.

Dave Atkins has a guy running a supercharger at 20psi on his 2mm seals in a daily driver. I have no worries about my 2 piece atkins seals.

I remeber reading somewhere about somone having problems with the atkins expantion (I don't know how to spell. )rate. Seems like it was just a couple weeks ago.....
